SKS market collapse is it true?

I bought one as my first hunting rifle. As far as hunting rifles go its the best BANG for your Buck. At $200 its a great way to get your first centrefire rifle that hits decent.

Amen

Bob - $239 at Westrifle includes shipping, at least to Ontario.
The only down side is the Westrifle mags are welded plug magazines. Ugly gun or ugly mag? I know which I'd choose. YMMV

I haven't picked up any for a year or two but the last ones all had follower extensions inside the mag. Perhaps they have a new supplier but for the last few dozen rifles I've scored from Westrifle they have all been above average and then some. Several of them were museum quality. I'm perfectly willing to accept that other suppliers might have good rifles too, but when you hit 30 out of 30, why fix something thats not broke. And if it was broke, they will correct it.

Just visited lever arms from my investigation they still have almost 1000 SKSs for sale
Wow, the CTC close to me brought in 150 for their grand opening! They first told me the sale would be $169. But later changed their mind and advertised for $179. I told them that the market was slowing( at least around our area) they sold around 50, and since then the sales have dropped of to almost nothing! So about 100 at that location for your investigation!

CTC would not be my first goto location for anything firearm related..

It's not my first choice either, but I always read on this site how people find a deal there ..... Only whenever I look, the prices are much higher compared to what I see online for any kind of rifle or shotgun really. Still, there aren't many big box stores around here that carry firearms, so I can't help but just take a peek whenever I'm in the area.

Locally CTC has the best prices $275 for 1440 Russian surplus, I got some beautiful SKS from our local and Fredericton CTC, some were non refurb, can't say anything bad except lately they have raised the price of birch stock to $189. I doubt if that will last long! Every where else in and around our area are more expensive for equal or less appealing SKS! Plus most places will let you pick from at least a few to find one you like!

If you live in my area I can show you where to get some nice ones! It seems as you go further west, the price slowly rises!

Does this mean in the future it may be cheaper to buy an SKS used rather than pay less from a retailer? Or is it still a retailers market?

I am seeing a few listed on the EE for less than $200 if they are run of the mill, more if they are somehow special.
A similar situation seems to be playing out with the M44, last year they were being listed at $450 to $700, this year $375 to $450.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm in the west .... It's interesting to see regional demands and prices. Over all, I think demand is still there in a lot of places and even where prices are high ... It seems to be like a $50 difference .. Still cheaper than a lot of .22 rifles. As long as the ammo is available, there will still be demand.

About 2 years ago retailers got the M44's in pretty large shipments and they sold them all. Just a bunch of them around when they weren't in a large supply before. I bought a beat up one for $195 (I think that was the cost) from Collector's Source. It cleaned up really nice too. Metal, bluing and bore were near perfect w/chinese bolt, stock was beat up but when I sweated the cosmo, cleaned it up and refinished it looked much better.
