Sks rifles from recent sale

Me too I put an order after I saw the message from wanstalls saying they're not laminated, wooden and blued
Request an izzy and by any chance a 1953 (yeahs its ok to dream lol)
recieved a tula 54, bbq, missmatch, stock sanded. Can it be worse than that ? lol

I could have contacted them and ask for a return and refund but huh, I have a left over cherry shellac I made 2 years ago that it turned very thick and dark. Its gonna be a refninish project..

Actually, I just applied the last coat this morning.

You just have to love that Red colour. nice job . if you can post the mix ratio to come up with that. good job.

Shellac ''garnet'' flake and the shellac thinner bought at Lee Valley
and to accelerate the coloring I add a bottle of Iodine tincture

I refinish another stock 2 years ago and I needed around 15 coats to get the same result at that time. the left over from that time became very dark and thick and after only 3 coat I have the same result

Maybe wanstalls should auction them off with a couple pics or description, but I guess that would be labor intensive! North Sylva may find someone to do it!

But rebuilding customer confidence and loyalty would be well worth the cost of labour
The 10MX then the SKS fiasco... will take a lot of rebuilding

Yea, not sure how they would get North Sylva to go along with it but could work! I wonder what these ratty ones would go for in the U.S. If they were allowed in!

I actually like the finish on the metal! Looks like nice parkerizing, the BBQ paint ones are shines and have a bumpy finish, I have seen a few and they look spray painted!

Yes it’s actually quite nice. I cleaned it up today and it is in awesome condition. Not a spec of rust on it and the trigger group and springs look brand new. Nice chrome lined barrel with good rifling. Besides a few minor nicks and scrapes the stock is also in really good shape. Guess I did get lucky on this one.

Yes, and when they are refurbed you sometimes get new parts/ whole trigger group replaced along with other parts to bring it back to spec, so for a shooter, its better than a non refurb that has worn parts!

that looks nice. Is that a ProMag? Does it work well?
Where did you get the handguard? I may want to make some similar mods to my SKS.

pro mag 5/30 metal with duck bill
hi cal cheese grater handguard
pearce armoury buffer set

the promag fit in well, but will be tricky to do mag changes unless I get a mod bolt to hold on last round. Can post after it goes to the range this week.
handguard was stubborn to get on as the old pin hasn’t been removed in decades so it took a little drilling and a good hammering but it got out with no damage to the metal.

i like the clean look to it, don’t like tapco or plastic so this has a nice hybrid look sort of speak

Cheers

Now I'm freaking out after reading these posts. My tracking number indicates that I'll be receiving mine on Friday. I added a note on my order that I wanted a blued, non bbq'ed, non franken pinned keeper as this is my first rifle and I wanted a beauty to show off but I guess my expectations shouldn't be too high for a $209 rifle. I called and spoke to an individual just to find out when it was shipping and he assured when he saw my order with the notes on it he would select one for me. Fingers crossed!

Don't beat yourself up on this.. They were put out there as $299 rifles, which would put it in the matching # VG price point
$209 was a sale price.. sounds reasonable as we all buy stuff on sale
I think we were all duped buy missrepresenting what quality they had

Well I was in my local CTC and they haven't even sent their sks back to north Sylva yet, said they were going to this week, so the wanstall ones aren't from this area!
