He closed it. Just had to force it shut on the closed bolt. If you load off the stripper clip, you are putting 9 in the mag with one in the chamber when the bolt closes.

Or in canada, 4 in the mag and 1 in the chamber, or 5+1 if pinned properly.

changing mags on a sks is awkward that big duck bill makes for some interesting times I find it faster to use stripper clips I cut mine in half to hold 5rd

In the Soviet army troops loaded 10 rounds with stripper clip then pushed rounds down with one finger and were carefully closing bolt with other hand making sure that there is no round in chamber and fingers are safe.

Tell me more about these $25 Baur mags... Specifically, where can I get one to play with?

No harder then any of the other mag fed firearms I have. I've got more of them on the way. I hope they are all just as plug n' play.

the fact that you need to pull the mag release back instead of pushing forward makes it that much more awkward but its like this because it was made to be fed by stripper clips they did make a 20rd mag that was just like the standard 10rd mag this was given to officers. btw the steel duck bill mags kind of look like someone took part of a standard sks mag and welded a ak mag in place
