:( I remember Questar said they'd import the Chinese Type-81 rilfe by the end of 2013...

Type 81 basically is a hybrid version of SKS and AK, but the bolt system is a lot more like SKS than AK. The gun served in Sino-Vietnam war during 1981 - 1989 and was in service all the way through 90's till Type 95(5.8mm version of Type97) replaced it in 2000.

anyway......is this rifle coming in ? :( what's the status right now

Yeah looks way too much like an AK-47 ;)
has to be at least restricted

Edit: These guys seem happy to have one for sure LOL

couldn't resist

As far as I am aware T.I. is still waiting for the RCMP Lab to finish up with thier testing of it, and to come out with the classification. I think they've had it for around 15 months. Over a year at least. Taking thier sweet ass time..

As usual.

That has to be the absolute most inefficient department in the entire Federal Government.

The rcmp has had the sample since august of 2012, if you really want to know give them a call at the firearms lab. I dont believe TI has been keeping in touch with the rcmp about it. Quite frankly its a touchy subject to wether it will be non restricted, could go either way, i do believe this is the first time a type 81 has been submitted

And no other than the safety bolt handle, and stretched out form on the original version its not much at all like an sks in design. It uses a dragunov style bolt carrier, ak bolt, vz gas system (short stroke) and a stamped almost rpk like reciever (trunnion size)

Have you been involved in capital expenditures involving the CF? I'll wager it's the most inefficient.

Seathing, F-35, FWSAR, to name just a few. All projects started more than a decade ago with no end in sight.

Well the problem as I see it is people parachuted in as Project Managers like to manage the hell out of something and make the PROCESS far more important then the OBJECTIVE.

If they can't ban it, then they will just hold it in limbo for as long as possible. No FRT = de facto ban.

Do you really believe it has anything to do with inefficiency?

If the barrel is over 18.5" the only two choices they have are non-restricted or prohibited.

I don't think that's true, AR's with 20" barrels are restricted. Barrel length alone is not the only thing that comes into play. I could be wrong, but..

You need to read the laws and regulations.

AR15s are restricted by ORDER IN COUNCIL. Were it not for that, any AR above 18.5" would be non restricted. There is no OIC prohibiting or restricting the Type 81 so it is either non-restricted with the appropriate barrel length, prohibited as a converted auto, prohibited as a variant of a firearm that was prohibited by OIC, or prohibited because it is easily converted to full auto (Hasselwander).

I'm fairly certain T.I. has made it vitally clear to their supplier that the latter three scenarios are unacceptable, and to do everything possible to ensure they do not become the case during manufacturing.

its listed as a kalashnikov in the frt already........THE WAIT IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!! i wish TI would just come in here and tell us its going to be ok, its like worrying that your girl is knocked up
