Honestly it has become the only 9mm pistol that I even remotely like. And I like it a lot. :)

see i get the commander thing.
when i picked up my SR1911 CMD i was shocked by how well balanced the gun felt.
it even felt strange to go back to the normal 1911 after.
then i picked up the SAM Tactical Commander and wow, is that a fun nice little shooter.

maybe ill have to cave in and pick up a 1911 9mm Commander.
you know what i want now that we are talking about this, i want a 1911 22 Commander.

Sam have Commander offerings in both "regular" and "enhanced". What is enhanced from the standard Commander? Both have the same sights, trigger, hammer spur...what's different? I'm in the market for a Commander in .45acp to bobtail, if these are decent, one might fit the bill.

BTW; UpNorth, I agree 100% with a 1911 in 9mm is wrong. I don't have a sister but I appreciated the analogy. Laugh2

I have a 9mm 1911 and it's pretty nice. I think it will outshoot any of the 45's I have and most likely any of the 45's you guys have. It might be a little better than SAM's and Norc's though.

I've been eyeing up a Sam 1911 in 9mm for my wife. She has a Norc 1911 in 45 right now and wants something a bit nicer for the odd IPSC shoot she does. We borrowed an SP01 Shadow that she tried and didn't really like the weight, plus she's used to the 1911 now. She likes the look of the stainless ones, so I've been thinking of getting the military enhanced for her. I haven't seen the 9mm commanders iin stainless, so I guess full size is it. Does anyone know what front sight they use? Dovetail or staked, and if dovetail, what size? She really liked the fiber optic front sight on the Shadow, so I'll have to get one for this too.

I've got a Colt Combat Commander in 9mm. And a Star Model BM compact [prohib] in 9mm.

It's lots of fun shooting 9mm from the single stack 1911 profile.

The stainless commanders exist, (I used to own one) just harder to find. Xtreme gun in Winnipeg might have one. Front sight is a Novak cut, check the wolverine thread on the new pricing in their forum, they just posted the frame schematic with measurements.

There's the SAM Sigma 9: http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/23365/SAM-Sigma-9-9mm-Stainless-with-106mm-Barrel.aspx

I ALMOST bought one a few days ago before settling on a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow.

That's funny, my wife has been looking at guns since summer but she's not in any hurry to get another one. We had it narrowed down to the SP01 Shadow, STI Spartan, or a Sam. When she saw a picture of a stainless 1911, she decided that's what she likes. I did see the Sigma, I'll have to see which one she prefers. I was hoping to get one for her anniversary gift this year, have to be discrete about it. I wonder if getting it engraved with her name and the date would be a good idea.

New SAMs will have chrome-lined barrels.

Norinco:
+5100 grade steel
+cheap
+reliable
+forged parts
+chrome lined barrel
-sloppy fit and finish
-no warranty
-needs de-horning
-poor triggers

SAM:
+best fit and finish for your money by far
+super tight tolerences
+backed by warranty
+made by people who have been making guns their entire lives
+great triggers out of box
-cast+mim parts
-questionable service life
-4### steel
-non chrome lined barrel

I own both and shoot both, would go for a SAM any day of the week. I would trust my life with the norc though.

New SS Sams will anyway....

"Anyway just a heads up advance info, for any inquiry on your prospecting buyer, after our meeting with my production heads last weekend, for any next purchase order from all buyers, we will have a very minor change on our barrels only. Any pistol unit regardless of caliber which the slide is stainless, the barrel that goes with it will NO longer be 416 stainless, but will be match with barrel 4140 in MIRROR CHROMED FINISH. This is for durability purposes, since 4140 is no doubt tougher and more reliable than stainless. You know based on experience with ATI before. We are recommending to make this necessary change for long-term sake, not just because we want to. Kindly explain to the buyer. 4140 metal on a crucial part such as a barrel is more dependable in terms of longevity and safety. So any black- slide unit pistol, barrel will be 4140 black, any stainless-slide unit pistol, we match it with barrel 4140 in mirror chromed finish (actual appearance almost the same as stainless).

Once again, this minor change is for all future deliveries. This is a "long term improvement" for everyone. Just a heads up info for you. Website specs wordings will be changed soon."

Well, I ordered the military enhanced full size yesterday, stainless 9mm. One of the guys at work was talking about how easy it is to order a gun over the internet in the US, so I whipped out my phone when we had a few minutes af coffee time, and showed him how easy it is in Canada. Then we had a long talk about gun laws here vs. US and I set him straight on a few of the "facts" he has learned from the media. He was pretty receptive to it all. I wonder if the stainless one I'm getting will be one of the new chrome plated barrels. I'm at least hoping its one of the ones with polished flats on the slide. My wife likes shiny things.

I'm trying to like the Sigma or Titan but those extended barrels just make the guns look circumcised.

I wonder what sort of recoil springs they take. Colt Defender? Officer type?

Barrel on the Sigma doesn't seem to stick out as much as the Titan model.

That's the one I'd go for.
