Why not tap the gas block hole for a safety detent screw?

Just trying to think what that would look like. I suppose cut back the gas tube stub more, so the whole of it fits inside the gas block/sight, then tap the hole at the rear of the gas block? Currently the gas tube stub sticks out about half an inch, just so I could easily twist it into position. I think the tube stub needs to stay in place as without it the gas would blow out the sides.

I'm thinking this leak is gas blowing along the underside of the tube stub.

I don't think I have a specific safety detent set screw but I'm sure I could find some suitable set screw lying about. :)

Maybe tap and screw in with loctite.

This is a bit more of a permanent solution but you could pound some lead in the gas tube hole. We use to plug holes in carburetors like that all the time. Go to a tire store and see if they got any old wheel weights kicking around. Then you just cut off a piece about the size of the hole and hammer it in.

What with the flame just above the hand guard on a couple of shots? Or is this just the frame rate of the video capture Messi g with the muzzle brake?

I took the hand guard off to see what was happening and sure enough there is a tiny fireball popping straight out of the gas tube! Maybe I got it right side up instead of upside down. What a dumbass Laugh2

Nice, what do you have on there?

Cheap NEA barrel, old style DD Modular Float Rail 9.0
Magpul Angled Fore Grip, Magpul Rail Sling Attachement, Magpul CTR Stock, Generic A2 grip
UTG AIR11850 scope mount, Nikon P-223 Tactical BDC600 scope, POF trigger w/KNS anti-walk kit
Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Application sling

Now I’m thinking I need one with a 12” barrel in something bigger. Like 50 Beowulf or one of those other 45 caliber ones. Never paid much attention to those cartridges but how fun would it be to go bear hunting with that?

.450-Bushmaster seems to be the caliber that's winning that market.

We all are a work in progress but once you have it sorted, please let us know what you did to solve the problem.

I am assuming there are lots of A2 front sight post lovers, I'm one of them, that would like to keep that look with the new bolt action action. ;)

I turned a piece of scrap cleaning rod until it fit into the gas block, and then drilled and pinned it in place.
After I have fired the rifle I will report on how this worked.
