SR22 Rifle Questions

Matchy-matchy! Got one of the Hogue milspec stocks for my Oilve drab SR. Because, matching components *always* make guns more accurate. Its a scientific fact.

Cheers fellas. I got my Mission First furniture, will post pics later. The Minimalist but stock is so tight, I may not even have to pin it! Not a hint of a rattle. I got a commercial spec stock and swapped out the SR's buffer with a comspec sized one too.

Dummy here ordered an AK-47 grip instead of an AR, but some creative dremelling and some custom washers made it fit. Just taking a break from notching the mag well grip and it'll be nearly complete.

Here's the MFT parts added. Picked up a Bushnell 3x9 AR Scope from PlainSight Solutions here on CGN. I had wanted to put some 45* off set sights, but they interfere with the scope...I'm sure they will find their way onto another project in the near future.

Not sure which muzzle device I'm going to go with. Here are the 4 I'm considering. The big one is a bespoke faux can for my Savage TR. It's open on the end so I can fit it as a shroud. However, on the SR22 here, its screwed on "backwards" and serves as a bbl extension.

I'm doing my first build and looking for advice on the stock. I want an ace stock. Possibly the skeleton or socom. My only concern is overall length as I'm running a 8 inch barrel. Anyone have any experience so I can be over 26" but not too much over?

I've photoshopped in the mission first and the socom stocks... the socom stock being about $150 MORE than the mission first is a factor. What do you think?

I think you'll need a 9.5" stock with 8" bbl. If you get the socom, note that they make 2 versions, a 7-9" and a 10-12". If you get the shorty one (above) you will need to pin it and *maybe* have to fix a recoil pad to get you the extra 1/2-1" (its what I did with my Ace Arfx to get over 26", with a 10.5" bbl)

If you go with the Arfx stock, you'll need the 9-7/8" one like TEG has earlier in the thread:

I really like the first 2, but for a true .223 look I think I would prefer the second one with the bird cage flash hider.

I've been wanting to get the Ruger SR-22 rifle because the cost of .22LR is much cheaper than plinking with .223 at the range. Two years ago I was tempted to pick one up at $550 but I got laid off my job so I had to put that off. Now I've noticed that the rifle is hovering around $650 to $675 (Ruger's website has the SR-22 MSRP at US$649). The local gun stores say that they're having a hard time getting 10/22s from Ruger. Is there a chance the price of the SR-22 will drop when production goes back up?

Side note: These SR-22 builds are awesome. More reasons for me to get one IF I can find one in stock!

IRG has one left in stock

$549 USD

They do pop up at a reasonable price on the EE fairly often, but they don't last long. One just sold for $550. There is also the option of buying a 10/22 and adding the Nordic Components chassis. Good luck with your quest, be sure to come back and post pics when you do find the right rifle for your needs.

Just got a SR22 with the fixed stock, was wondering if I need a buffer tube with the spring and all or just the tube with ajustable position and get another butt stock like magpul.

Thanks

Will do, but I don't think it will be remotly close to what you and gcdavison have done. I'm a rookie at this, and a first time moder working on a tight budget. I'll take my time and see were my journey takes me lol.

You will do great, they are very simple rifles to build. Looking back at the date of my first post in this thread, it has only been just over a year since I first started tinkering with my SR-22. There are lots of experienced people on this forum to offer help and advice if you need it.

Question: I wanna put a shroud on my barrel should I have it thread or just install a thread adapter. If so where could i get one that fit the sr22 and would it affect my accuracy.

Thank you
