Well this is great news for the Canadian gun owner after a Spring of C71.
Now if we can get the prices down a little bit, more of these firearms can be owned by more Canadians.
But I imagine prices will rise because of the low dollar.

I know, but 8lbs isn't something special. The POF Revolution is a 308 gas piston gun that comes in just over 7lbs

That's not an apt comparison, the POF Revolution is basically an AR 15. For example, it uses a AR 15 style BCG, that's a half pound of weight savings right there, along with a bunch of other AR 15 components. It's smaller than a G2 DPMS, and those have been getting spotty reliability reports with their lighter BCG and gas system. Now I don't doubt the piston POF 308 isn't a kick ass gun, but it's a proprietary design.

Stag 10 is always going to be a G1 DPMS pattern... getting a G1 DPMS near 8 lbs is actually really good when you consider the BCG weighs 18-20 oz itself and the receivers are big. The biggest issue with direct impingement 308 guns is getting a reliable gas, BCG, buffer setup, and it appears the Stag 10 is near the top with reliability while remaining lightweight (thanks to the gorgeous 7075 forged receivers, medium barrel, light and strong furniture).

A good rule of thumb is a 8.0-8.5 lbs is very light for G1 DPMS. Getting one down to 7.0-7.5 lbs will take a 2.0 lb pencil barrel, ultralight + expensive 12 oz BCG (which requires an adjustable gasblock and can effect reliablity) and then a bunch of ultralight furniture, which not everyone will want for a hunting/precision rig. And then the price is going to go way up.

I wasn't comparing, just showing that an 8lb DI 308 gun is not some great achievement like some make it out to be.

It's not that I can't carry a heavier rifle. It's that I don't want to lug around a 9 or 10lb 308. The added weight needs to come with added performance down range, like my 10lb 338 Lapua or 20lb 50bmg that I also hunt with

So where do you hunt dinosaurs? :p

The Brownells BRN-10 has the Faxon 20" pencil barrel. I want to build something like that except with a flat top, FSB and I want to use conventional hand guards.

This might be nice, with a forward assist.

I like your original idea from the original post here.

Can't wait!

So you're beefcake enough to hump a .50 hunting, but half a pound on a 308 is a deal breaker?

Yes, why hump a heavier 308 when I have lighter options at that performance level already?

Obviously I'm not taking the 50 up the mountain on a goat hunt, I shoot the goat from much further away and send the kids to go get it.

What's the lighter options?

My ACR is 8lbs in 30ar. When I get the 180c it will be closer to 7lbs in the same caliber. I also have some 6-7lb 308 bolt guns but that is not a fair comparison. Keep in mind my intended use is hunting in the 100-200yd range even though I have easily taken deer sized game at 400+ yds with the 30ar

Walter, are you going to list the .308,this week.
I bought the U/L set with the BCG but might like to just buy the complete gun.
Would that be OK?
Or I’d take a 6.5 if it had a 20 barrel.
Is it possible to get the 22 barrel ,chopped, around town?
19 inchs And recrown And threaded.

Cheap , light or accurate. Pick any of the two.

Depends on expectations of each value. A NR 8lb max, accurate, reliable, semi auto, 308 with an 18.5 barrel for $3000 or less is a winner in my books.

I don't see why this rifle can't check all those boxes with the appropriate tweaking.

Price would be closer to $2000 if said tweaking was done by manufacturer rather than consumer having to rely on aftermarket after purchase

If the 30 RAR is all you need for your hunting, that's cool, but now we're comparing small frame to large frame AR. Just like you upsized to 30 RAR, the Stag 10 could be built in something like 338 Federal that stomps the 30 RAR for energy and velocity. Even basic 308 is far more capable than 30 RAR... And at the same time, the ACR and 180C aren't exactly lightweights in the realm of small framed AR's either.
