Sterling Arms International R18 Mk3 Part 1 Review - Specifications and Initial Impressions

You shouldn't be surprised if people keep on posting since you just brought it to a new low.

Buddy is having a full blown mental health crisis because people are being honest and not stroking his ego.

Were I Cox, I'd be consulting with my lawyers about a civil claim for defamation of character based on Libel (eg. written CGN comments). Make an example of one (or more) of you. But I'm petty that way, with plenty of time on my hands.....
Could you project your insecurities and desire to censor everyone you disagree with any louder?

If anything this thread has proven : someone else needs to test this rifle and evaluate it on its merits. Give it to CFET for a 10K round burndown - those guys will settle the verdict on this. Rifle on its merits its great, but the owner's pattern of behaviour is concerning. JR can make as many apologies but it doesn't matter when it's just an established pattern of behaviour at this point. Bartok isn't doing him any favours by getting into internet slapfights with every detractor. People have legitimate grievances, maybe expressed in a less than tactful way but given that Bartok has had exclusive access to the rifle and his personal relationship with JR it's hard to see him as an impartial party, much less representing SAI indirectly.

The rifle on it's own merits, given what we know so far, is actually pretty solid. Triggertech out of the box, 2.5 minute guarantee (albeit I wish it was 2.0 - but to have some level of confidence in the product is a great thing to see), okay-ish price, would be a great buy used/on sale. But we won't know how it shoots and the gas system change does raise an eyebrow but we'll have to wait and see. It's not as fat and ugly as the old one, and it's not as priced as insane as the previous one. Taking feedback from the other thread especially about stocks and handguards is a pretty solid sign.

I do hope it works out well. I like how it looks, I like the idea of a modern-ish piston gun for less than 2 grand. But this thread and the behaviour of JR recently (ATRS & TSE) is really off-putting. The reality of this post was to generate hype, but expecting that with the crowd that comes with the hype should just overlook previous transgressions, much less very recent transgressions, is naive, and to be upset about it is a whole different level. Anyone who's actually interested should just now wait for a review by another party - and I hope CFET is one of them.

You are quite welcome to tune out Part 2 of my Review, as you quite evidently see no value in my findings. Fortunately, not everyone is as judgemental as you and many are interested in what I manage find out about the new rifle, warts and all. But of course, I'll cover up any reliability issues and will use my trusty pencil to poke good looking groups in the paper targets, so nothing really to see there. Do yourself a favour and just continue on your way so as not to waste any more of your time.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only tester - there are after all, 25 pre-production rifles. Who knows? Some may even satisfy your demand for absolute impartiality, assuming they can be bothered to post results for all the world to nit-pick. I never said that I was impartial, BTW. Re-read the Disclaimer on page 1 of my Review if you have doubts about that as well. I did say that I would provide an honest report of my findings, but of course you automatically assume that I will lie to somehow "protect" my friend, who will then presumably sell faulty rifles, but will never be found out. Whatever. Put me on ignore if you have doubts about my honesty. That way you don't have to see anything that I contribute to this forum. After all, I wouldn't want to falsely influence your thinking with my many lies....

The weight difference is due to the additional short-stroke Piston components up front on the Mk3 that the "Internal Piston" /Direct Impingement Crypto and the Raven do not have.

I understand why.

But that 1.6+ lbs would still cover an ACOG, offset red dot and sling.

Please feel free to go back and read my comments. All of them before TSE's closure didn't mention JR at all - my beef was with the negligent marketing of this gun. My SINGLE post after the closure was to highlight that apologizing once doesn't forgive continued questionable behavior. Our current leader has apologized twice (as far as I recall) about ethics violation, but keeps doing questionable things - is he forgiven too?

Bottom line, I was on the fence before, but I was open to changing my mind. Seriously. Lots of the guns in my collection are purchases I warmed up to. I hated lever action growing up because they were ugly dinosaurs. Now I own 3, and am seriously in love with my R92 since polishing the bolt. While I wish I could have a similar story with this gun when it finally fires, I refuse to give money to a company who spreads red flags on a daily basis, with a marketing campaign run by a hostile attack dog.

I'll stay out of your thread. Now I'm just here for the lulz.

Plain and simple. Between his actions and Bartok chomping at everyone with valid critiques and concerns, it's a master class in what not to do when launching a new product. Giving out strong Marstar John vibes. I guess that makes what, 2 or 3 people that have expressed aren't interested now based on the behavior of ownership and those associated?

Thank-you. I could care less if you purchase an R18 Mk3. Just stop polluting my review thread with crap unrelated to the rifle, its technical details and design features. We get it - you harbour serious doubts about the rifle designer's continued involvement in the SAI project. I am quite posiitve that many will line up to purchase a Mk3 once the Part 2 Review results validate the rifle's design elements, all of which are well-proven. Your lack of a purchase will hardly tip the scales one way or another, so each to their own.

So, I suppose YOU would just sit back and let a bunch of chirpy adolescents call you names (shill, morally bankrupt, etc) without a response, eh? Well, I reckon you are the bigger man. Not me - I explain my position and defend my actions. You would deny me that opportunity by accusing ME of doing the attacking. And yet every one of my comments is in relation to an attack by someone else first. Yours may be just the about the most passive-aggressive case of cognitive dissonance that I have ever encountered.....

Oh boy! 2 or 3 malcontents who SAI likely wouldn't want as whiny owners aren't going to buy an R18 out of spite because I defended myself against their baseless accusations on the interwebz! How dare I?!?! LOL - piss off kid. Nobody wants or needs you as a customer anyways. You vastly overestimate your importance and are the type that is a continual after-sales pain in the arse. Never satisfied, always nit-picking and trying to find fault. We all know the type. Your refusal to purchase is good news for all concerned. Be sure to stand by your words.

Denialism and Napoleon syndrome continues to run the show, the BOLD sections applies directly to yourself not others.

If you don't like being called a shill, morally bankrupt/ect then STOP CONTINUALLY DEMONSTRATING SAID ACTIONS.

Your level of emotional dedication to this issue implies there is much more at stake than your feelings, you project yourself as a severely angered investor with a lot on the line to lose.

Also nobody has attacked your age, assumed your living arrangements or disability yet you continue to attack others on these issues with your projections,.

To put it very simply......

No, I am not a Youtuber, just a legless, medically-retired combat veteran, now confined to a wheelchair. I have some experience with firearms and maintain a modest collection of military designs. I hardly cut a threatening figure in a chair, however I will not stand for outright lies being told about a guy who already has enough haters for things that he DID do (and publicly apologized for), over a decade ago. YMMV
apologies dont work if you keep doing ####ty things after as well. but ymmv.

The ability to sift through comments and respond to those that warrant one is just basic common sense. I've never called you a name and infact find your reviews usually interesting to read because it goes beyond a "Put 50 rounds down range this afternoon, shes solid" that is usually posted in the Canadian part of the firearms community. To constantly spend your time lashing out on here to everyone that expresses concern about the rifle or the relationship you and JR share or your role with SAI, brings into question your bias about the rifle as you take it as a personal affront. The end goal of a proper review, is a non-biased, objective view of the product, which very obviously isn't going on here.

2 or 3 people that voice concern about a product because the people involved in producing it have had a poor track record of business ethics, isn't something to turn your nose up at, because who knows how many just couldn't care to say it and have already written it off? It's not out of spite that someone who feels that way wouldn't purchase it, it's out of concern for supporting poor ethics and perhaps even poorer service. If you were chosen to be the mouth piece to review and bring attention to this rifle, you've set the example of showing the type of experience someone could expect to get from SAI. They chose YOU to be the first person to showcase this rifle, which is going as well as people can see with the constant need to keep defending JR and shooting down everyones concerns as they are voiced. Your posts reflect as poorly on SAI as JR's actions have.

There is no cognitive dissonance on my part, but you might really want to take a step back and realize if you want this to be about a "review" for a rifle that isn't out yet, that you haven't fired, that is made by a company with a questionable track record, spearheaded by one of the most polarized people in the Canadian gun community, that you supposedly have no personal investment in, you need to stop engaging with people outside of what pertains to the gun that is in your hands. It's natural for folks to get fired up when some folks like to sling personal insults, which at the end of the day are pixels on the screen. But when the people this rifle is supposedly trying to court to buy, that voice a genuine concern for quality, support, etc. keep getting responses like the one you left for me, you are only inviting more discord and ####posting.

I'm no Mr.Monopoly, but I put about 5 figures a year into shooting, collecting and the accoutrements that follow, it's one of my favorite hobbies and passions and I spend what I can on it, more than any other hobby I pursue. I am a person of conviction though, and feel that the many new people that are here on this forum that are just joining the firearms community or haven't been around long enough to see the many scandals unfold, should understand what they are dealing with. I 100% will be voting with my wallet and advising everyone I know who asks, to follow other avenues for black rifles. I think everyone should eventually forgive people for their past, but never forget it, because at the 3rd glaring middle finger to our community, you'd have to be a clown or as bad as the current government to support this kind of behavior.

Everyone has bad days and I'm sure you're quite the character to share a beer or shooting stall with, but you can't let this stuff get you so fired up in a bad way. If anything, I know your time in those olives taught you some temperance.

I don't find "no value", and you need to take that stick out of your ass.

I was trying to be fair and suggest to other viewers to put their opinions on this drama aside and by allowing another review from a 3rd party to help make their purchasing decision , but clearly that's too much for your ego and you think I'm accusing you of lying - I'm not. I'm saying that you're clearly too emotionally vested in this project and your friend, which is fine, but to behave like this with the MILDEST bit of criticism is wild and completely embarassing. It's nice that the manufacturer is doing testing, but another perspective is always valued and not to mention a rifle in production vs a sample of pre-production samples may produce wildly different results.

I was feeling bad for you and the slogging in this thread, now I can see why you deserve the vitriol. Grow up.

Nice attempt to explain away the personal attacks that I have been subjected to, all for bringing interesting new content to CGN. I stand by my comments. All of them.

Go vote with your wallet and sing your song of hate to all and sundry who will listen to your poison. At the end of the day it won't make a lick of difference if the R18 Mk3 performs as expected. Anyone who asks will find that SAI's after-sales service for the Mk2 was excellent. They will buy whatever works best for their money, full-stop. But you go ahead and miss out due to your moral superiority. I'm sure that will keep you satisfied when the R18 Mk3 takes off.

Thank you for confirming your position as the pathetic shill you've been called for.

You.are missing the part where I don't care. I never asked for your support. All I have asked for is a focus on the FIREARM, not the controversy surrounding its designer. But Noooo - some people just have to dredge up the past, or focus on the man's current business difficulties instead of the subject at hand. Disappointing, but this being CGN I am not particularly surprised.

And no, I will not "roll over" in my own thread. Continue to attack me, and I will continue to bite back. Simple.

Bartok, look man, your personal attraction to a piece of a hardware, in this case a new rifle, is most understandable. We all would love a new nice looking and nice functioning rifle. Although it has been a fleeting fantasy over the years for one reason or another.

But jumping from that hardware attraction to a blind faith in a company you don't control and writing walls of text trying to explain every suspicion people are voicing based on previous experiences is a bit too far.

You got the rifle, you wrote a good in depth review on what you got. It is admirable effort on itself. You might want to leave actual PR and reputation damage control to SAI itself.

With all my respect to you personally.
