Yeah, but they can't add to the 12.5 list without an OIC, so if the cpc is willing to update the list with an OIC, then we are in big trouble.

On the back of my PAL it says
12(3) Converted Auto
12(5) OIC # 13
12(6) Handgun
The 12(5) is for the Norinco AK I have so I think they would need a "OIC" to add the T-97 to the list.

So basically there is no evidence that semis are being re-classified. Just speculation, and the CanAm T97s are unknown at this time, BUT the Lever Arms are re-classified as prohibs from restricted?

They are using this one:

(c) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger.

I was always under the assumption that the canam T97's came from newly manufactured semi-auto only receivers, but now I'm wondering where I got that assumption from. Looking around at the other looked threads, and their website, the only thing I can get is newly made non-restricted barrels.

Maybe I missed something somewhere, but a confirmation of something would be nice.

I'm still holding out though; not ready for a refund yet.

I think all semis will be taken out with 301

I think the CPC want to pass the C-301 and in order for them to do it they are going to sell out the semi-autos.
Im sure this would be passed in the house. The goverment would fulfill there promise of scrapping the gun registry. The Libs and NDP will saveface.
All our semis will be gone to restricted or prohib class.

On a short not, with respect to the appeal I noted above, one of the largest concerns was that the selector had an "automatic" position. Even though it couldn't be engaged, it helped lead the tribunal to believe that the gun was originally intended for full auto fire...

Then would it not be 12.3 not 12.5 ?

Are we going to run with a form letter.

It is shoddy work practices versus due diligence and this is what we get a s**t storm of accusations and innuendo of RCMP conspiracies

Well, the whole Lever T 97 fiasco is a series of screw ups perpetrated by incompetence on the part of the RCMP and thier staff
Lever's initial paperwork for the first T-97's (restricteds) required assigning an FRT.

The initial T-97 was examined by a member of the RCMP in BC, who then sent pics and e-mails to the firearms lab in Ottawa. The rifle was NEVER seen by the firearms techs in Ottawa.

So FRT was issued and Lever brought in the rifles. So they acquire a sample from Lever, have it sent to Ottawa where it is disassembled... DAMN... it's converted from "full auto"... Lever pulls their inventory and the RCMP changes the FRT classification from restricted to Full Auto Prohibited.

Now we wait for the RCMP to make a decision on the T97 that Cam Am has brought in

Are we going to use this as a form letter. We need one. We will come across more profesional, show we are organized, show we have numbers and make a stronger point.
If someone has a better letter please post it as its own topic perhaps in General Gun Discussion. We need every member to send letters not just those waiting for type-97. We all know it is now T-97, next week it is m14s, then AR's & Swiss Arms.
We need to get organized . Can someone draft up a letter so we can all template it. Or do we run with this letter.

Jesus dude - why don't you draft your own???

Whatever happens I'm writing a letter, and worse case I'm taking that money to buy a Norinco M4. I'll voice my opinion and get my semi-auto, both of which are rights as a Canadian citizen.

Best of luck to Can-Am, we're behind you. RCMP needs to be told their place.

I thought that OICs were pretty much "open ended" in the sense that they could add new "variants" of a prohibited firearm as they pretty much wished ? BUT in this case, because the firearm would have been imported AFTER the cutoff date, you would be pretty much SOL.

So I've sent letters, wrung my hands and finally started to think.

Here's the thing the way things are shaping up in Ottawa just doesn't make a whole lot of sense (obvious I know). So I ask myself why are these things happening? The only answer I can come up with is a knee jerk reaction on the part of antis who are currently caught off guard. I honestly think they're completely at wits end right now.

There was a time not too long ago where people like Wendy thought the idea of firearms ownership was about as dead as firearms sales. Bill C-68 really threw us for a loop and the lack of available communication really didnt' help things. Many people didn't want to invest their hard earned money into a firearms and so few of us had anything to lose. Now however gun sales in Canada are on the rise and have been for a while and that means more people owning more guns; pretty much the opposite of what they thought was gonna happen.

Look at whats been happened over the last 6 months. Bill C-301 comes up and it looks like one way or another its gonna pass. Then at the exact same time CANAM brings in a very large shipment of T97s (largely presold) and Marstar brings in krinkov style VZ58s. All this is a lot for the anti movement to swallow, they want people disarmed like sheep, meanwhile the sheep are not playing allong.

So where does this leave us?

Honestly, I think we're being pushed in reaction to current events. The only way for us to play this game is to push back. Politics is and has always been a question of support, if you operate without the support of the people you fail. So we need to continue to push back and its really easy to do.

Ideally you write a letter to your MP and the others who have been already noted in other threads. If a letter is out of the question for you then send them an email. Understand that this is an issue of volume, the more letters etc the better. This means that more people have to start writing. I emplore anyone who reads this post and hasn't yet written to do so now. We are making a different and we're really pissing the antis off.

It has already happened to Marstars vz58s. Now the type 97. That much is not speculation anymore. We have to figure out how to fight this here and now, before it spreads to other guns.

You are absolutely right a well written form letter would be great.

Honestly when it comes to letters I think your own words work best. If they start getting a thousand of the same letters then its basicly spam. Don't wait for someome to tell you what to write just write what you mean and send it.

I disagree;

Some people just don't write very well.

Besides, it appears from some previous posts that that's exactly what Windy Wendy did - drafted a form letter and slapped the name of some of the organizations that are associated with hers.

I'll write something up tonight and post it in the Action centre letter.

Besides, if hundreds of us send in the exact same thing, it shows that we are becoming better organized, and that's a feather in our hat.
