If not a template, at least a detailed description of the exact nature of the RCMP or any other parties offense in this. While I know they're quite out of line here, we need to be as accurate as possible for maximum effect. I can write well enough, but any help from more knowledgeable members in the specifics of the laws would be a great.

Since this is somewhat separate from the C-301 issue, can someone post a list of the pertinent people to send a letter to? I am not a black rifle owner, but this is crap and needs to be put straight. The law is the law and even the pinhead bureaucrats need to follow it. "Interpretations" and changing rulings to suit their mood is not acceptable any time.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm one of those people. :(

Yes but you can VOTE and thats whats important. Your letter is from a voting citizen and politicians know this. If your lack of confidence in your writing skills is holding you back then copy one of the various letters that have been posted already, change anything you feel you need to and send it off.

Just send something.

This sums up nicely the points you need to hit.

Start with an outline of what you want to say; make it in point form.

Group similar ideas and thoughts together. These will build your paragraphs.

Build those thoughts into sentences.

Short and concise is better than long and rambling.

Use spell check and consider the grammar suggestions that Word gives you.

Have someone proofread it.

Add your signature, put it in an envelope and mail it for free.

On a more positive note, here's a picture I found in a previous thread by Dr.Lector... It's a good shot of the selector on the Type 97A... It's pretty clear that it only has the two positions "S" and "1". There's no "A" or similar designation, engraved into the metal to indicate that it's a "converted auto". If this is the style of receiver that CanadaAmmo is importing, it definitely adds to fact that this is a Civilian Version - Semi-Automatic, not a converted... The small piece of legalese I posted earlier stated that the RCMP firearms expert, weighed heavily his opinion that the rifle in question was a converted automatic, noting it's multi-position selector. He stated that if it were truly a semi-automatic design, it would only have two positions - "safe and fire".

So you gotta be careful about what sort of custom engraving you put on the outside of your rifles these day, I guess.

If memory serves, Alta Tac Rifle went through exactly this with the CFC/RCMP lab when they started cutting their AR lowers. They could mark fire and safe but no fake marking for auto, depsite the fact the fire control would only permit safe or semi. If they added that 3rd section, they would have been in deep doo-doo.

You just can't make this #### up.

Man, do I hate owning this thread..:(:(:( Remember.. I was just the messenger!!

Sorry to say, Lever's shorty did have more than 2 positions. No, I don't know if the switch would move to all positions.

Wrong

Honestly when it comes to letters I think your own words work best. If they start getting a thousand of the same letters then its basicly spam. Don't wait for someome to tell you what to write just write what you mean and send it.

Every wellorganized campaign sends the same letter. My business organizes a big goverment campaignevery year and we always have form letters, so that the message is clear.
Furthermore, a easy form letter will likely result in greater responses and the messagewill be clear.
