T97 Range Report Thread

I have also had a couple FTF's. It seems some mags have a little too much front to back play. This allows the front of the mag to drop down a few thousandths too far, allowing the bullet tip to ram into the flat just below the feed ramp instead of the feed ramp itself. I might try taking a dremel to mine and cutting mini "M4" ramps in it. i think it will work.

This is exactly what I am doing with mine...this way I feel comfortable using other mags when I relieve the magwell a touch to accomadate the beowolf 50 mags & gen 3 pmags

I bought 2 grey LAR mags, 2 black LAR mags and a gen 2 Pmags.

One of the grey mags was pretty tight and wouldn't drop free so I went at it with my dremel along its spine and now it drops fine. The Pmags gen 2 is just a little snug and almost drops free but not quite. The black LAR mags both run perfect. They all fed perfect, including the mag that came with the rifle. I put about 100 rounds through it at a gravel pit tonight. Omg this gun is so much fun. Not FRF, no FTE, gun ran awesome. There's practically zero recoil, and I was plinking rocks at will at 50 yards without any adjustment to the sights.
This is my first "black rifle" type of firearm and I'm pretty stoked about it.

As soon as I get all the work complete :)...will take a bit as I am working doubles for the next lil while...

Whenever you get around to it. Chances are I won't be competing too soon, but would like to resolve the feed issues. By the way, if you're in the GTA and don't mind an observer, I don't mind driving over with some brew for after the work is done :)

Hit the range again today. Had great fun!

Twice though in a few hundred rounds it did that "scrunch the bullet" thing others have mentioned. Anyone have a fix for that? Mags? Ramp?

I found at 50 yards I was using the number 5 hole and was getting right little groups at bullseye, and the 1 was working at 100 yards. I noticed I could see really well through the 1 hole, almost like there's glass in there lol.

Quick question though, the 1 is for 100 yards, the 3 for 300 yards and so on, right?

Probably a dumb question, I know

Could be a mag issue. What type of ammo and what type of mags were you using? I found the combination of Norinco 223 ammo in my LAR magazines gave me this issue on occasion (in my AR). Turns out the Norinco ammo was 2 thou longer than the Federal black box stuff I was shooting and that increased length combined with crappy LAR followers was my problem. I replaced the followers in my LAR mags with magpul followers and never had the issue again.

Not sure if that helps any of you guys having this issue but I thought it was worth mentioning since for some of you this is your first black rifle and perhaps you haven't heard much about LAR mags having not spent much time in the Black & Green Rifle section.

Thanks man,
It is my first black rifle. Most of my rifles are 60 years old lol. I've been lurking around here for the past month or so trying to learn what I can, there's so much info it's a bit overwhelming lol. I have a lot to learn about these types of guns and am pretty stoked to learn all the little tricks. I'm a bolt gun guy mostly with some pistols but always wanted to get into black guns, it was just the restricted class that's kept me away, and until now the crazy price tags on so much of the NR black rifle stuff. I'm a big fan of this gun so far!

To answer your question, I was using LAR mags as well as a Pmag. I'm honestly not 100% sure which but I'm pretty sure it was the LAR mag, the grey one that was doing it. And I was using the norinco bulk stuff for ammo. I also notice that there was a little dent in a lot of the spent casings about halfway down the shell, some more prominent than others.

I've never used ar mags before yesterday lol. I had no idea about swapping the followers. So thanks for that man. I'll pay more attention as to which mags are causing the issue if it happens again and look for some followers. And tip on a good place to source the Pmag follower?

Am I the only one that thinks the sites are too low? I have to squish my neck in to my shoulders to get a proper look.

For 3/$9.99, I'd just grab new followers...I've shot a few thousand of the bulk Norinco stuff and never had that problem after replacing the followers but not having a T97 ymmv. Canadian Tactical Cowboy has them in stock here http://ctcsupplies.ca/products/enhanced-follower

Bullpups, and in particular Chinese bullpups, are just not my thing ;) but I have to say that I'm happy it has got shooters such as yourself into the black rifle game. Anything that swells our ranks is a good thing IMO. If you like your T97, you'll love an AR. Plus you can pick up decent ones for the same $ or less than your T97 so no excuses man, go get one! :D

It's the Restricted thing that keeps me from AR's. My local range is WAY too busy.

That's another reason a lot of us are trying optics - with a riser you'll find it really ergonomic. It looks a bit tall, but points great!

^ Does it fit well? It looks like you just had to trim a little bit. Held by double-sided tape or velcro? I'm waiting for my T97 to arrive so I can try this out.

Yup, break out the dremel and sticky tape (get the industrial strength stuff).

The inside radius "hump" of the riser is wider than the 97's stock. I would permanently affix some rubber stripping (with JB weld) to the left and right sides of the RISER.
Then break out the heavy duty double sided tape and stick it to your rubber strips, press it onto the stock. This way it's easily removable without damaging the gun. I trimmed the tabs off the bottom of the riser, then marked and dremelled a radius around the ejection port.

To install mine, I doubled up on the sticky tape and it's surprising solid! If I were to do it again, I would do the above.

Tootall and I went out the other day and he didn't notice that it was a modified add-on, which was kind of a compliment.

The riser is $18, which made hacking it up a little easier..

Thanks again man.

Haha honestly the first time I saw a t97 I wasn't too keen on the look, but over the last couple months it's really grown on me. It feels really good in the hand and I love that I can take it into the bush with me. I've always wanted an AR and I'm sure I'll have one one day. It was just the restricted thing thus stopped me. I hate ranges in the cities. And I spend most of my time travelling for work way up north so this way I can bring the bullpup with me in the bush. Hopefully by this time next year I'll have a few more black rifles lol.

Do these upgraded followers fir the LAR mags as well, or is it just a PMAG thing? I also saw Wolverine has some E-Lander upgraded followers, anyone try them or know if they'll work with LAR mags? I've got 3 grey and 2 black LAR mags that I'm hoping to get good use out of!

Also, thanks for the advice drifter dave, I'll post up my results after the weekend. I just got word the T97 has hit the rock, I should have the first one tomorrow!
