Try before you buy the B+T Buttstock if you can. I ditched it on my APC 308 because of excessive flex in all directions. For some reason B+T uses a much softer polymer than say, Magpul. B+T's polymer is like that F5 Buttstock on the Crusader Templar. Rubbery...That's part of my plan ..
Thanks for pointing that out, I image the stock being replaced, but only for the better. I'm more interest in form and function than looks, and I was curious about the weight difference for balance.Try before you buy the B+T Buttstock if you can. Probably fine on a 5.56mm rifle where recoil is minimal. Still, if you like a really rigid Buttstock this may not be the one for you....
The "Buffer Tube" does not have a standard threaded interface where it joins the Picatinny QD Adapter. It is actually reverse-threaded for some reason. So really, you have a choice of replacing either the entire Picatinny assembly, or just the Polymer sliding Buttstock portion. Here is a photo to show you what I mean....Does the quick-detach butt-stock have a standard buffer tube socket in it? Spectre LTD has got fed up with the flex and supplier uncertainty of the F5 stock, and are bringing out an in-house design under their new Whiskey1 division. Although unproven at this time, they claim it has enough fibreglass reinforcement to avoid the flex of F5 stock. It is to be side-folding, have variable length of pull, and a cheek riser that follows the end of the stock as it extends. How it compares in real life to other polymer stocks like the F5, B&T and Magpul Zhukov remains to be seen. A 1913 version is likely incoming, but if the quick detach has a proper buffer tube attachment point, the Whiskey1 folder may work out of the box with the MK3. Obviously, given the price consciousness of Sterling, this won't be an out of the box option, but TSC may want to contact Spectre to offer this as an after-market option, should it be compatible, if the Whiskey1 turns out to be good, of course.
Thanks, Bartok. The Whiskey1 will not work as is, as it interfaces straight into the buffer tube socket. Since they do sell a 1913 rear-ended version of one of their piston rifles, hopefully Spectre LTD and Whiskey1 will make a 1913 variant. The "Buffer Tube" does not have a standard threaded interface where it joins the Picatinny QD Adapter. Our community in general loves to ##### and complain and is also notoriously cheap. That's just the way it is. I'm really looking forward to the accuracy testing results. I'm a buyer if "max 2.5 MOA" claim holds water.people on here complaining about a 1800 rifle that has parts to a sig/HK in an OIC world. I will get one and have a can full of ammo to use on it.
oh i've seen that over the years on here. Next people will be complaining its not 1moa gun. hahaOur community in general loves to ##### and complain and is also notoriously cheap. LOL and most of those people are not capable of a solid 1MOA.oh i've seen that over the years on here. Next people will be complaining its not 1moa gun. haha
Speaking of buttstocks -- would it eventually be possible to get a config with a collapsing MCX-style version, especially knowing AKDAS already offers one on the SAM?
The Lightweight buttstock is what I was referring to, yes. AKDAS are apparently already making a proprietary version that includes a 1913 interface so this would be plug and play. It would avoid a redesign of the folding stock altogether, and offer some flare for the MCX-at-home crowd.Currently the ADKAS SAM folder goes to the Left side of the Rifle, which interferes with the operation of the Charging Handle on the R18 Mk3. There is no getting around the Left Side Charging on the Mk3, as that is one of the defining features of the R18 series that assists in obtaining a NR FRT entry from the RCMP Lab. So the need is for a RIght side folder, necessitating a complete rework of the existing SAM design. As for an exact copy of the SIG Lightweight MCX Buttstock versus a folding Buffer Tube style of Buttstock,, you'd have to lobby SAI. I'm guessing that they will want to go with a folding Buffer Tube design, as that is what they already have the Picatinny QD Adapter ready to go for..
