Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

I just wish I had a Tavor. :( Can anyone point me in the right direction to order importable parts to the US? Also is there anyone who can get true specs or dimensions of the complete rifle and un-importable parts? Gun laws are just plain ignorant!!!

you can thank the old "Made in USA" mentality for your importation restriction woes.

back to the Topic of Tavor, just got mine in the mail from another CGN member, going to put it thru the paces soon.

Had a chance to handle the Tavor today, Christ the Mepro M21 sight sucks. Canada Ammo is not doing anyone a favour with those poor sights. Tiny little reticle.

Otherwise nice gun though. If I were to buy one, I'd like the pic rail and just not bother with the Mepro.

You know, I thought the same thing until we actually used one in match conditions (CQB). The reticle is almost too large actually, as it covers too much of the 5 ring at closer ranges.

Otherwise it worked really nice outside, using the same method as a ACOG for self lighting.

Perhaps I missed this part when reading the instructions in the Tavor FAQ for converting the rifle to lefty, but do I actually need a left handed bolt for the conversion, or can the normal bolt be changed over?

You need the left-handed bolt. The extractor is on the other side on the left-handed bolt so the brass is ejected to the left side instead of the right side.

pop the little spring in the hammer assembly to lighten the trigger pull, I noticed 3 separate slamfire incidents when I was out at the range today. Previous range trip I shot 100 rounds with no problems with the spring in place.

I am hooking the spring back on and see if that makes a difference.

Silly question but I assume you have taken apart the whole Recoiling System (Armour Manual Figure 2-2) clean and lube all the components of the Recoiling Systems. Also, remove the trigger mechanism (Armour Manual Fig 6-3) and lube the springs.

What ammo were you using?

Were you using .223 or 5.56? I've had mine slamfire with .223

The Tavor would not comply with the ATFs 922r bill, it must have a certain amount of US factory made parts to comply, like the stock, trigger group ect, they would never let it in . But you could import a parts kit of some kind. So your only hope is if some company there starts to build them from parts kits and making the compliant parts like whats done with the AKs , Barret was going to build them but that fell through then i heard Charles Daly was but they went belly up .. The only other hope is Taurus they build them in Brazil under license from IWI for the army mabie they can build them in the US if there is enough demand.

I highly doubt this would hold the Tavor back as much of the gun is already made in the US. IWI is trying to get something going in the US and they had planned to announce a US Tavor at shot but that fell through. It'll come I'm sure in the next couple years.

Has yours slamfired with the upgraded bolt and spring? If so wtf is wrong with this rifle? I have one bought and paid for in full and since it is virtually impossible to find 5.56 what the hell good will it be if it slamfires with 223? Is it just me or don't people find it unacceptably dangerous?
