Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

After removing hammer action spring, found I had to stick my finger down the inside of the stock and push down the Hammer down a little (just a little slack) to reinsert the bolt action.

Me too, but it's worth it in order to have the lighter trigger pull

So Whats the solution to the gases that puff out in your face around the gas block ?

they dont mark my face, but they make my eyes water and dont smell the best. thought some sort of tape over the little gap.

any other idea's ?

I want to use black silicone instead of the tape, but haven't figured out where to put it. Matter of fact, I haven't field-stripped it yet either. A few guys here stated that they broke stuff while attempting to do so, now I'm terrfiied of attempting it.

And you're right, the fumes are terrible.

EDIT: Does anyone else pop up the rear peep when shooting this rifle? I'm sure it's due to my aging eyes but unless I swing up the rear peep, the M-21 bullseye is blurry. I tried moving closer/further away from the M-21 aqs was recommended by others, but that did nothing for me.

I must add that when I shoot this rifle, I'm in an enclosed area aiming outdoors. This makes things worse in general (have trouble even seeing the bullseye), as the M-21 thinks I'm in a low-light situation and lowers the intensity of the bullseye.

that's one of the main problems with the m21, shooting from dim light into bright area's makes the retical blurry. im going to be taking it off maybe put it on my SR22, and get myself a Leup MRT 1.5-4 with illuminated retical.

I use shooting glasses.

The mark is known as a Tavor Mark™ and identifies fellow Tavor shooters to each other.

:D

i didn't get any mark shooting Sellier and Bellot fmj. and i was wearing glasses. made it worse as it trapped the gasses around my eyes. got 3 shots off and my eyes started to water.
only glasses that would work would be ones that they use in chemistry labs that seal off your eyes. and there is no way in hell im using those lol.

far as i can tell from where i put my face when holding it. it needs to go over the top of the stock right where the magnifier mount attaches. right at the back of it there is a small gap.

I had the same problem. No mark, however the ammonia gas puff was pretty bad. Strangely enough it seems to have gone away . I'll be shooting the Tavor today so we'll see if it's permanently gone. Maybe it's from some factory lubricant? I'll let you know if it's still there when I get back.

Did you take off the front handgaurds and pull out the charging handle rod before you unlocked the barrel?? it is very important to do because if you unlock the barrel before taking the hangaurds and the rod out the barrel will pop up under pressure and bend the rod and crack the gas tube assembly this will jam up the action bad... it happend to my friend he unlocked the barrel before taking these parts off an had to buy a new rod and gas tube assembly from can am cost him $130:HR: try locking the barrel back up and see if the action will break free then worry about the stuck case..

I put my M21 on my SR22 and it works great! Replaced it with an Elcan on the Tavor, on top of the OEM rail and a YHM riser....perfect!

Soon I'll have an aluminum shroud over the back end to redirect the gas puff. If it works I'll post pics, if not I'll try again....hahaha

It may depend a lot on your cheek weld and head position, hand position, optic choice, etc. With my Elcan, i have to position fairly close to the optic, and without an extend rail it puts my eyes above and just forward of the ejection port....bad spot...i can actually block it with my left hand off a bag, so a small alloy guard should work great with just some 3M tape in place...anodized of course.

i was wondering. could i take my tavor to US for course ?
will i be able to get ATF 6 paper with it?
thank you

no you cant. they arent allowed down there. something to do about not haveing 2/3's of the rifle made in the states. or other such junk, but you cant take it down there.
