The 25-06 Remington

About 30 years ago I bought a Ruger no.1 V from a guy in Burnaby, took it to the range on the way home and put a scope on it. Shot 5 of the guys 117 gr. Handloads into a 1/2”. Ever seen what an 87 gr. at 35-3600 does to a varmit?

A 75gr vmax at 3650fps can separate a crows head from its tail by 41' bout all that was left

Most 25-06 owners are shooting Hornady 117gr boat tail soft points or 115gr Nosler Partitions (BC .390). 1200 ft lbs energy @ 400y

Compare to a 6.5 PRC 143ELDx (most popular factory load or component bullet, BC .571, retains 1200 ft lbs energy to 710 yards

The 25-06 is a fine cartridge, given its limitations.

You shoot a lot of animals at 700 yards.....

Works well for bears. Confirmed with these two shot this week. 100gr Barnes TSX at 3400fps+/-, recovered one on a 250 yards raking shot. Lost a petal or 3 gr. A nice high-velocity, low-recoil round. Approved.

Had similar success this spring with a 257 Roberts and 100gr TTSX,

If nothing else, the use of the 25 cals certainly proves that a 338WM with 250 grain bullets isn't required to shoot a bear. Over head stamped, and all that.
