I'm wondering is anyone has mounted a light on their Scout at this point ? I don't want to debate the usefulness of the concept... for some... it might be an operational requirement.
In my case I was able to modify a few Magpul mounts and it works awesome but the sights don't clear be base so it's not perfect. Otherwise, the setup is perfect.
So, apart from simply drilling a rail to the stock, does anyone have any other ideas?

Help! I've been wanting this rifle for years and now that I can finally buy one I have run into a few issues...
1. The price has jumped from about $900 when I first noticed them to over $1400 today... why???
2. I handled a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor at Great North Precision in Kelowna last week. Cost was $1350 which is about $100 less than the Scout.
I know the Tikka doesn't have iron sites which is a feature I love about the Ruger, but it seems to be the only sacrifice I would make if I were to buy the Tikka.
I know there is a sort of cult following around the Ruger Scout Rifle and don't get me wrong, I get it!
I'm just having a hard time spending $1400 on one and need some explaining on what this gun has over the Tikka as a scout rifle.

Tod Bartell has both the CTR and GSR, maybe he'll chime in on his prefrences. All I can say is "EE". One just sold for $750, two more on there for $1050 and $995, walnut or laminate take your pick. Love my GSR but would not pay $1400 for one. Mine came from the EE as well for under 900.
Ruger GSR has better magazine options than the Tikka CTR. Steel 5 or 10 rnd, Polymer 3, 5, 10rnd, and Magpul 6rnd mags.
Ruger m77 a more robust action than a Tikka. This I think important for a Scout concept rifle, where the rifle could be used in extreme weather, little to no maintenance

Look for a used Scout if prices scare you. Rugers in general are very expensive lately

Thank you for guiding me to the EE, prices are still reasonable there, for now. I will definitely go that route when I decide to go ahead with the Ruger.
I have been away from the gun world for 6 years and am just getting back in now. Funny how I can get an American made AR15 for around $600 when six years ago the same rifle was $1200. I'm all mixed up with VZ58's at $1400 and AR's at $600, I have been going through all the dealer sites in the past couple weeks checking what else has changed...
Thanks for the information, looks like I'll eventually need both, one bush gun and one bench gun... just need to decide which one first.
I think something is wrong with yours... I have 5 mags for mine and all slip in without problem even with the bolt closed...
no issues here in my two GSR, or my buddys
Interesting that you think the Ruger GSR is a more robust action than the Tikka CTR, since the Tikka Arctic is basically what was selected for the Canadian Rangers. I am not saying that one is more robust than the other, since that is a subjective judgement. In regards to the rear sights on the GSR you have to remove them if you want to use a conventional scope, this is also the case with Tikka Arctic. This is not the case with CZ557 Range rifle which was a competitor for the new Ranger rifle, so I believe it is superior to both the Ruger GSR and Tikka Arctic in this regard. I find that the Tikka CTR is not an easy rifle to carry because of the magazine and also because of the heavier barrel with a light synthetic stock, so most the weight is forward, were as my Ruger GSR is an easier rifle to carry because of the weight difference and the better balance
