The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

For anyone looking for an affordable Rhodesian sling, I found these: $55 (Cad) shipped.

Slogan sling is very similar only rubber. I have both an Andy's leather sling and a Slogan. They work very much the same, the Slogan is much better at staying on the shoulder with a pack on. The rubber snugs the rifle on to your shoulder.

I've used Andys slings as well and they are excellent but once I tried the Slogan they hit the EE.
I now run the Slogan sling on all my field/hunting rifles with the only exception being my Kimber that I use in the mountains where every ounce counts.

I run my Slogan set up the same way as a Rhodesian sling with the forward loop a little smaller than you have. It is a little slower to get into than the leather ones because of the texture of the rubber but it locks you into position really nicely.

Well Im not too experienced with scopes, normally i stuck to iron sights. So hope i got this mounted right. Leupold FX II Scout scope.

Dang that looks nice! I am still waiting on my XS rail, but I have almost everything else I want for my configuration. Might paint the stock ODG for fun.

why not just remove the rail if you're going to mount an optic over the receiver?

I did take it off, I guess I just like the look of it. I realize it has zero function, but it would save me from tracking down filler screws.

With the factory Ruger rings (#4 & #5), a Leupold 32/33mm Scope fits perfect. I run a VX-3 2.5-8x36mm on mine and I had to file down a bit in the center of the rail, but you’d have to really look to see it. A 40mm Scope would require a decent amount of material to be removed from the rail.

Removing the rail is certainly a good option. I prefer the look of the rifle with it installed though.

I have a 2-7 sitting here as well, might give that a try.

On a side note GMC403, this one is so much smoother then that first one I bought. No rim polish needed on this bad boy.

I just took mine off for the 3-9 on the 223. Balance better without it anyways.
