The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

Question for anyone that’s installed an xs sight full length rail, is the xs sight’s rear peep aperture the same size as the factory rear peep sight or a different size?

I had the XS rail but sold it without using it as I wanted a different setup so can't measure it for you but from what I can determine on the XS website, the inside diameter of the ghost ring is 0.150 and the factory rear has an I.D. of 0.094.

smallest I've used is 40mm and I have to use high Leupold QRW to clear the objective. I think medium should work on the 32mm and still have clearance between the ghost ring and the scope tube

This is my scout when it had a VX-1 2-7x33mm. (#4/5 rings)

This is it currently, running a VX-3 2.5-8x36mm. (#4/5 rings)

The 36mm needed a minor filing the the centre of the forward rail to fit.

Not the best pics for scope reference but better than nothing

Here’s some fresh ones.

Thanks, do you know if the med qrw and the med prw are the same heights? I have a set of med prw’s and a set of low Burris zee rings to use as mock ups. The scope I’ll be using has ample eye relief so I will have some play forward and aft to clear the peep on the ocular bell I’m guessing.

Thanks for the pics gmc403, I have a feeling med rings will be what I end up with but I’d like things to be as low as possible.

Im not sure yet, havent fired it a bunch, the gun doesnt kick bad, packs a pretty good whollop when it hits something and should drop most anything at reasonable ranges

Anyone running one of these in .450 BM?

I have a synthetic in 450 BM, just the ghost rings no scope, it is my main walking around rifle, I have yet to hunt with it, but I am planning on using it as a bush rifle for Mule deer next year, I think of it as a bolt action 45/70 slightly milder.
