The GSG 16 modification thread

I haven't heard of anyone else who had a GSG-16 that wouldn't feed hollow point ammo. But for some reason, mine just won't. But now that I found the right ammo, I only have a failure of some sort every ~500 rounds or so. Very, very good for a cheap .22 semi-auto plinker.

(Except for the fact that the gun itself had a failure - cracked bolt cover)

Is there any specific reason people don't shorten the barrel instead of replacing with a Dlask?

Cutting the OEM barrel would render it prohibited.

[h=2]Prohibited[/h][h=3]What's included in this class[/h]
  • Firearms adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted are:
    • less than 660 mm in length
    • 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length

Because it would be illegal. You can't cut the OEM barrel any shorter, as from the factory it is already below the legal cutting limit. So only option is making a barrel from scratch

The short barrels are stamped by Dlask. I have heard some will have the Dlask receipt and the RCMP barrel and 660mm comments printed and stored in the GSG-16 pistol grip in case challenged while plinking.

Unfortunately Dlask did not stamp all the barrels so yes.. have the receipt on hand.

Well a cut down factory be easy to tell. One its stainless, and Dlask isn't. It will have the serial number on it. Which would not be cut off, during shortening. As it inches from the trunion.

My LOP right sit between the second and longest position which makes it quite uncomfortable for me. Are there options can make a 13.5'' LOP?
Also I found it weird that as LOP is such an important spec, few places show it. Not sure why.

I can check the length of pull with the different stocks that I have.

Are you running stock GSG16 or do you have the 9" Dlask barrel?

Just thought I'd post a few photos and measurements detailing the size of stocks compared to one another.
I only have a few styles but it gives an idea to the relative sizes between them

From Bottom to top:
1. Fixed MP5 Stock 25.5cm
2. SRC MP5 F A3 1 position and closed adjustable 27.5cm open, 13cm closed
3. VCF MP5 A3 1 position and closed adjustable 23cm open, 7cm closed
4. CYMA MP5 A3 F 3 position and closed adjustable
5 GSG16 3 position and closed adjustable 26.5cm open, 11.5cm closed
*measurements from center of stock pin to end

All aftermarket adjustables use aluminum arms. SRC and VCF require fitment as they are made to match a steel receiver (narrower arm tracks than GSG16, larger rear receiver than GSG)
The CYMA adjustable fits perfectly but is mostly plastic except for the arms, still a very good fit to the GSG16.

Here is my earlier post with measurements. You will need to add the distance from the centre of the stock pin to the trigger to get the LOP.

Finally bought myself a GSG 16 for plinking!!! So after reading as much of this thread as I can muster and trying to exhaust my searching capabilities, I have a question that I’m sure someone here can answer…….

Everyone seems to love the Dlask 9” barrel, but I am not trying to make a clone or a short barrel fun gun. I don’t mind the stock overall length, but I hate the fake can. Some pictures of the GSG 15 show an exposed 16.5” barrel with a muzzle device that I find looks wayyyy better than the can. Is this an option for the 16 or is the barrel different? If anyone has some insight let me know! Again, not that I NEED a muzzle device on this 22, I just like the look of it.

Other option would be an extended fore end, seems to me I’ve seen some of those, Thorsbear chime in?

Has everyone pretty much used the 522 conversion kits for their cocking tube assembly? Went through all 160 pages, but didn’t seem to find anyone that altered an ICS cocking tube assembly for use on the GSG-16.
