The GSG 16 modification thread

Hey guys. Just picked up my first gsg 16 with a 9 " barrel. Looking at a few different options for Handguards but noticed I don't have a hole to put the push pin through..... What is everyone doing to attach their Handguards?20230415_213317.jpg

It sounded much worse then it ended up being after I actually drilled the hole in. Everything fits great now.

Awesome thanks !. I ordered a handguard off a guy who 3d prints them (fairly reputable on another page). If I am unhappy with it I will drill this out and open up other possibilities !

Here is a photo of another of my GSGs with a Navy MP5 Lower (super nice GPR Plastic like the CYMA Stock) and a proper MP5 style fire control selector

Hey thors have you ever thought about shaving down the top of the receiver so the front and rear sights match up and look more like an mp5 ? Just curious as always I love your builds

I have a one piece aluminum MP5 housing that I want to mill down for an accurate looking rail delete after I shave the GSG16 receiver.

I did exactly that, but the few photos available for the solid stock and other parts isn't reassuring.. Looks like they have some sort of rough texture.

Has anyone purchased one of their fake suppressors..?? Do they look good..?

Also, I vote for Thorsbear for BEST Modded GSG 16..!!

How much did you spend on your various builds, if you don't mind me asking..?? Is it two builds, or three..??

I'm using your builds as inspiration cause I was going to just buy an A2 and A3 stock, the triangular fore end, maybe one with a light, and a fake suppressor and call it don't.. But then I see your builds.. HAHA Have you listed all your parts and sources for your builds..?? I've been reading this thread for days now and honestly, it's confusing trying to keep track of things.. HAHA.

I'm literally thinking about buying multiple GSG's to build a 9 inch model with A2 stock, and the 16 inch with A3 stock.. That MP5K16 also looks SWEEEEET..

But the hunt for parts is just beginning for me..

The problem being that I see ICS parts discontinued and I don't have a whole lot of tools to do anything with.. Then there are parts just simply sold out. And of course, no more conversion kits.

So I did some experimentation today and with a lot of modifications the ICS cocking tube can me made to fit. Its interesting in that its almost like they purposefully designed it not to fit :) It took about 4 hours of trimming and fitting with hand tools but it can be made to work

After installing the modified ICS cocking tube... and shaving the reciever... and making a receiver cap out of a 3D printed sacrificial one bought from a member (fyi - this one was the biggest PITA... someone with skills needs to 3D print the original GSG-5 profile reciever caps modified to fit a shaved GSG-16 reciever;))... and adapting a metal ICS cocking handle to work with a sacrificial alloy ICS one... adding a rotary rear sight and finally shaving the fat off of the mag release. Replacement selector are availible from Numrich.

So at the end, in my opinion, it is possible to do a reasonable GSG-5 conversion without having access to a GSG-5/522 conversion kit :cheers:

I had some enquiries as to how to adapt, in this case, an ICS lower (check with 1611 on some steps) and other comments as to "no way it can't work'. They were correct in that it's not a plug and play options. There was definitely plenty of incremental adjustments to be made, and it helped immeasurably to have another working rifle to reference, but it can be made to work effectively (see video) ;)

Looks interesting. I have the 522 kit with an airsoft drum sight right now. But the rear and front sight aren't aligned, and it's been kind of a PITA.

Can anyone comment on the HLD setup? Does the rear sight align with the 522 front post?

EDIT: My mistake - I got too excited. This is a pre-order and the part isn't released yet. Should I order one and test it out!?

Looks too high to work. The receiver on a GSG16 is 6mm higher than the MP5 style GSG522.

The only way that you can get something to work is to shave the receiver to look like the 522.

Looking at their photos it looks like they are getting the sights to work by raising the front sight height at the cocking tube (would need the HD Tactical Cocking Tube)
