The IWI Carmel: Initial Thoughts and Observations **Range Report added on post #48**

With mine, an X95, off my elbows with an 4x ACOG I could keep three, 10 round magazines into 6” at 200 yards with bulk M193, PMC…shooting “rapid”.

Off a rest with bulk M193, PMC I could keep 10 rounds into 2.5-3” at 100 yards….one or two of those rounds would open up an 1.5” group average into said 2.5”-3”…always had a few “fliers”. Gun would shoot fine until about 50 rounds, going very rapid then it’s open up a lot past 100 yards but it also cooled down fast.

The Carmel is shooting, by most reviews, 3”-5” 100 yard groups with GOOD ammo…so hopefully it’s the shooters, not the gun!

Hopefully, but those results sure ain't great.

Between the free floated barrel and better trigger it's hard to believe that the x95 would out shoot the Carmel!

I agree on the free floated barrel (I know the X95 doesn't have free floated and I am assuming that the Carmel does) but honestly the stock trigger in the X95 wasn't terrible.

I upgraded to the Geissele and it could be argued the expense wasn't worth it (point being the Geissele is a better trigger no doubt but the expense isn't worth the marginal gains).

Now compare that to the previous TAR-21 Tavor trigger which I understand was horrific. I sold my X95 standard trigger pack and from memory it was a guy upgrading his TAR-21.

These guns, nor the Makasi is gonna shoot little tiny groups
Kinda funny how lots of people think these should shoot like a precision rifle lol
Always makes me laugh. These things are designed to hit a man sized target reliably, not poke overlapping holes. Most of the people I've met with these silly obsessions can't even make a fist size grouping without the assistance of a lead sled and a shooting bench.

No one is expecting sub MOA…

BUT

4-5” at 100 yards with GOOD ammo isn’t great, that’s legit how my SKS with peep sights and Chinese surplus shoots.
There are very good reasons as to why the Israel's never fielded them.

Unlike the Tavor line, which was discontinued due to the war necessity of needing 5.56 and .308 rifles cheaply and prevalently now (so they favoured AR15's and AR10's), the Carmel failed their own military fielding requirements and so was shelved. Only resurrected for the civilian market by IWI USA.

Those who favour the Carmel as a "battle-proven platform aren't going to want to hear the truth regarding the rifle's lack of military success.... Just saying.

Some folks have their egos directly linked to their firearms choices.....
