The M1 Garand Build Thread

No need to worry about the brake increasing pressure in the barrel, it operates by redirecting gases once the bullet has left the barrel.

Yeah when I first saw the pictures I thought it look rather strange, but it's a standard PB cylinder with PB marked Lock and Lock Screw

Thanks for the heads up on the receivers, I spent a couple of days trying to decide which one to buy a SA or Win; in the end i bought one of each. So now i will probably start sourcing and searching for WRA parts, and like the Italian parts I will have extras.

Just finished puttting the new SA 1955 barrel on the new Breda receiver and added the Dupage laminated stock ....I love this rifle !!

WRA barrels, stocks and gas cylinders are very hard to locate. I've only seen one loose WRA barrel.

Yes I also noticed the price premium for WRA parts as well, it is going to cost quite a bit more to build a Winchester garand as compared to what the Italian garands cost me to build. The SA parts are everywhere so they will be easy to source; I am very curious at the serial # range on the SA receivers.

They are being advertised as WW2 production. This makes sense as I believe that they are from the stripped down Danish surplus rifles which were virtually all WW2 vintage WRAs and SAs, with the obvious exception of the Bredas and Berettas. The US made rifles were supplied in the 1950-52 timeframe. There must have been a few post 1953 production rifles supplied as well as I've seen a couple of Danish stocks which had 4M s/ns stamped on them.

Got a Breda trigger group with a WW ll WRA guard, from Nunrich. gotta wonder if that was added later, or did Breda build guns using US parts ?

Many of the Danish Garands came with a mixture of parts from various makers indicating repair while in military service over a period of 40 yrs or so. Parts were interchangeable regardless of maker. The Danes produced some of the most often replaced parts including barrels, stocks, handguards and elevation pinions.

Another newb joins the ranks! Purchased a Breda receiver....and now the fun begins! Sarco order in, seeking barrel and Breda bolt parts. I've read through this entire thread (was directed here from Reddit /r/canadaguns), and you all have inspired me! I will update with photos as things start coming together.

Your best investment in building a Garand is the Kuhnhausen Shop Manual on the M1 and M14 rifles. It's available from Brownell's for $50, about half the cost of a complete bolt assembly these days, and well worth it. It's been my guiding light for solid info on building/repairing Garands for the last 16 years. Good luck. If you have ??? don't hesitate to ask.

The adventure continues. I stopped the Sarco order after watching several of the videos from Vulcan. I'm a machinist, and watching Nick work with a file struck a chord. My receiver is now in his capable hands for a build. Not quite the DIY project I was going to do....but the quality of his work speaks for itself. And while things happen there, I will continue to accumulate BMB/BMR parts for a batch refinish/build at some point in the future. The incredible level of knowledge and community around this particular Garand variation is amazing, and I'm glad to have found a new "niche" to be a part of.

Now, if I could only figure out why the cheapest receiver available has the most expensive parts!!

That "cheapest receiver" is only priced that low because it can't be legally imported into the US. Those Breda and Beretta receivers are in demand down south and can bring upwards of $500. (American)http:/ /www.riverbankarmory.com/parts7.html

If they could get them imported we would never have seen any of them here.

Congrats! Your wallet will hate you.
Did you get the parts kit? How much was shipping?
I'm curious to see the quality of their parts.
