The (naked) truth about the GSG 1911 barrel bushing

My barrel bushing broke today, prb 2K rounds down the pipe. It was the "pot metal" one that broke, anyone know where i can get a metal one locally here in Ottawa?

Well last time i tried to contact them for some Tok parts they never got back to me :)
Worth another try i guess, checked their site they only show Norc ones in stock

Edit:Ryan at BlueLine contacted me and is sending a replacement
WOW now that's service!!

My wife just bought a low round count GSG. Are there any mods/upgrades to the above information? One that makes sense to me is removing the mag disconnector safety, a piece of metal and a spring in the msh.

An outfit called ATI offers after market parts, like straight main spring housings, guide rods and recoil buffers, steel barrel bushings, mod'd slide stops, etc.

I gather Gunnar stocks some of the above. Anyone else?

Thanks

Since the Blueline sub forum is gone I thought I would post this info:
ZRTS is shipping direct to Canada now that they have an export permit. (the shopping cart is now updated, however the shipping info page hasn't gotten the correct info)
I emailed them today about getting the deluxe kit (SAC, spring and rod) plus the barrel bushing fitted with the SAC and they are good to go shipping via USPS.

I just ordered a pretty comprehensive parts kit from Prophet River, everything except a guide rod. $29.95 before taxes and shipping.
Good to hear that about ZRTS.

When my wife's low mileage/one owner GSG 1911 arrived, it had a slight problem .....

The right side ambi was inoperable (loose and wobbly with the grip panel off) as it was pinned to the frame by the after market grip panel which was not relieved for the 'wing' of the safety lever. The slot on the right side part was sprung. The seller was good for the repair, but the guys at Blue Line are sending me the part under warranty! That's service.

While I was at it, I ordered the kit with the tapered barrel bushing and steel guide rod. Coupled with the parts kit I got from Prophet River, I expect to be able to keep that gun running for a long time ......

I have a GSG 1911-22. Good balance, points and shoots well in spite of the horrendous sights, and is really picky about ammo. I've been keeping my eyes open for aftermarket mods, and at http://blsolutions.ca/ I found the ZRTS threaded comp and a guide rod replacement kit, ordered on Wednesday, got the parts in the mail today (Tues).

Took a fair bit of spin-filing and fiddling-about to make the compensator fit, and I shimmed it out almost .100" - properly indexed it ain't, and the set screw is non-metric, unlike the gun. I installed only the new spring initially with the new guide rod assembly, and it wobbled around enough that the end caught on the barrel housing, creatively jamming the slide. Reinstalled the original guide rod spring underneath/inside the new one (they wrap in opposite directions), fiddled and diddled, got some decent firing-pin strikes... Soon, we'll see if it shoots. I can't recommend these parts, though; for the coin spent, one should at least get an instruction sheet.

Comments are welcome. Has anyone else fiddled with their GSG? As in, done any surgery on the feed ramp? Or changed out sights?

I got the new ZRTS kit from the website Yorg mentioned above, and it now comes with the super nice stainless steel bushing. I measured the tolerances, and the old GSG bushing/barrel was .068, and the new one has .003, the play is a little tight but it will wear in eventually.

I am in the middle of installing the ZRTS ultimate enhancement kit, and as you say, the new SS bushing is extremely tight. In fact, I am having a lot of trouble trying to get it in there so it will turn freely. And obviously I don't want to force it. Advice?

Edit: Managed it after a bit of light filing on the bushing lug, as recommended by ZRTS.

Having the same problem myself making the bushing fit. I'll try the filing technique. Cv32. Where on the lug did u file?

Sorry for the late reply, but the inside flat side of the lug, closest to the muzzle. Just enough that it slides into the groove on the slide.

That was a nice, clear set of instructions. Your explanation proves the gun is sound, it is human error reassembling the gun after a cleaning that is the problem. I haven't had any problems with my GSG, but it is important to be aware of what will go wrong, if you do not put your handgun back together as it is intended.

Don't take this last comment as arrogance.... but my goodness, if you don't know how to properly reassemble your handgun correctly, then you really are a danger to yourself and friends you shoot with. Guns are not toys. Guns don't clean themselves, point by themselves, nor are they capable of pulling their own triggers. Please don't get complacent folks.

Thanks again for the write up. Always willing to learn.

Try aftermarket sights (front and adjustable rearsights).
I got mine about four years ago so I don't remember the name
but they're easy to find and make a huge difference.
