The new NR NoDak Spud NDS 18SC

^^they don't care to make a rifle length push rod or piston allowing a rifle length gas port. The correct way to do 20"
Carbine op system will put unnecessary forces on non-res guns

So what's the compromise here? An 18.5in+ aftermarket barrel placed on the stock jakl of ~13.7-14.5in barrel length with the carbine long stroke gas piston system will have the same issues as a 20" barrel to say the least, would it not? PSA's own 16" jakl uppers come with the same length op system as their 13.7" and 14.5", all carbine length. Are you sure that a long stroke gas piston system similar to that of the AK has the same problems between barrel lengths as standard ARs Carbine vs Mid Length vs Rifle gas systems?

20" we are talking about for both:

The carbine length gas hole will force the action to open earlier while more pressure is present possibly before the bullet even leaves the barrel... not good

Rifle length the bullet passes the gas hole later letting pressure lower and lets the bullet out of the barrel before the action opens... very good

Right, so the situation wouldn't be much improved with 18.5" barrel, given the gas system is still carbine length regardless. This is the same issue that the converted Bren 2's have, and I mentioned it several posts ago.

Would the presence of a default adjustable gas that is easily adjustable help when tuning the system for whatever piston length and barrel length the firearms ends up with?

Reddit member goshasthegreat noted his DLask Bren 2 conversion was working fine, and stated the following in a reply to my comment/question in his review thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/1aoz6kf/nr_cz_bren_2ms_1k_round_review/

You seem very knowledgeable on the matter

Adjustable gas helps the pressure yes but the timing of the action opening before the bullet leaving the barrel, the brass casing is still under pressure and doesn't want to be pulled out. The bolt and carrier take a beating that isn't necessary. I'd rather have this gun 14.5" and restricted if carbine gas but no thanks

This problem is worse in a piston gun being that there is no flex in the op rod. DI has a very slight delay for the gas to travel the gas tube

Just give us a 20incher. I'd rather the 20 incher for reliability, recoil, and optimized 556 ballistics or go 14.5 for usability. 18.5 is an inferior barrel length. It's existence is solely to obey senseless arbitrary laws.

Haha well said.

Reddit and its consequences have been a disaster for the internet.
