The next little thing

Barrelled action is complete by Martin, I'll be putting irons on it and stocking this spring / summer. Aim is to have it on the rocks chasing goats by Sept.

I would be interested in your cartridge/load developement also...

I appreciate the uniqueness, not sure of the action cost, but wouldnt a pierce titanium be around the same weight, giving you ability to have a larger range of choices all around, stock, bullet, chambering, would also allow shorter barrel length to reach a desired velocity, to maintain compactness. I don't imagine this is is a budget based build, if for the pure enjoyment, great, enjoy. I have a 5lb scoped titanium and would love to shed a pound off that, fixed 2.5 ultralight on the next one. Fully understand the need to shed weight humping up and down mountains. Maybe you've mentioned, but since I just read 19 pages, I probably forgot the first 12-13. Was a titanium considered, and could it be possible to get to 3.5lbs with no scope that way. I realize your committed now, just fascinated with light rifles and the path we choose to get there. Interesting read for sure.

Ardent,
I have a request - some time (if you don't mind) post a short video of the action being opened - with sound on.
I don't get excited over many rifles, but a Hagn falling block is one that gets my heart pumping.

Long story short I've have and have had several high 4lb rifles, and have ventured into custom ti's with the fully titanium Satterlee M98 that comes in equal to the Pierce ti but with more features. I spec'd the rifle to be comfortable to use as it's a .375x57 bear gun and added a bunch of options that brought it up to high-5s to low 6s, need to scale it. It's my understanding Pierce still uses a steel bolt, maybe I'm wrong? Satterlee is a full ti M98 and not a Remington copy but also 5x the price on a bare action.

What's special about this little gun is it brings me back to being the kid at the river on the farm. Sure, it's probably lighter finished than a Pierce as it needs next to nothing for stock material, right now this barreled action is about the same weight as a 1911 pistol. But it's a lot more elegant in my eyes too, I see this as a classic Norton or Triumph out on the race track and the Pierce as a Suzuki. Different souls, different pleasures. In that vein I'll do a classy proper exhibition walnut stock set in addition to the monntain set, this is a set I did for a previous mountain gun with class project, a 7x57R No.1 full custom. More my style than a Pierce / modern I think. Unless it's a Kimber as then I can abuse it without feeling bad.

Sometimes us gun nuts don't decide on a completely rational basis. A full Ti action is a piece of art. On a cost vs. performance basis, we'll there may be better decisions. Sometimes it's just nice to have a functional piece of art in your hands in the field.
