The remington 350 magnum

And yes..... a 310gr bullet at 2500 fps is a pretty stout load in a 350rm!

The .350 RM was originally designed for short action rifles. The maximum cartridge OAL is supposed to be 2.80". In my long action .350 RM, OAL can be 3.15". The 310gr bullet can then be seated out as shown for increased case capacity -

A long action 350 kinda defeats the original niche of the 350 RM. A sledgehammer in a short action, short barreled rifle.........If I'm going to pack a long action in a 35 cal it'll be either the Whelen or a belted 2.5-2.875 cartridge. The gains in a long action are obviously significant but still no where near a 358 Norma or STA.

In my 35 Whelen and 9.3X62, full cases of Reloder 17 give great accuracy and the highest MV's, followed closely by the slightly slower H4350. Reloder 17 seems to be THE powder for this bore size and case capacity for medium to heavy for caliber bullets.

The 350 Rem Mag fits into the tiny space between those two, its only advantage being that it can fit into a Short Action if the bullets are short-seated.

My custom .350 Remington Magnum built on a Remington 798 long action with a 24" 1-in-12" twist McGowen Precision barrel. No issues with heavy bullets taking up case capacity. Near maximum load performance using Reloder17: 310gr bullets at 2500 fps and 250gr bullets at 2700 fps. Fine accuracy. :)

RL17 and H4350? Those seem to be pretty slow powders for the Whelen?

Agreed - excellent results with Reloder17 in my .350 RM.

The Woodleigh loading manual lists Reloder17 with their 310gr bullet in the 35 Whelen (they recommend a 1-in-14" twist or faster for this bullet in the 35 Whelen - my 700 and 7400 have 1-in-16" twists and won't stabilize this bullet :( ) -

Depending on the source, Reloder17 is slower burning than H4350 -
