Well now I am confused . after reading this thread I got curious and went to savage99.com and punched my sreial number in to see what date my 99 is. It told me 1908. I didn't believe that so I started doing some more research and I now know that, I don't know nothin. I know 1908 is fishy as the 250-3000 wasn't introduced until 1915. after comparing it with the photo's here I think it is a 70's era saddle carbine but I thought that the newer savages had a 1in 10 twist rate in .250-3000 and mine is 1in 14. So my questions to the experts are did the 70's saddle carbines have the 1in 14 twist, and is the serial # located at the back bottom corner on the left side of the reciever.
This has made me want to learn some more about the 99's . does anyone have any recomendations of good books on the subject?
