Yes, I realize the 'purists' will point out that since it has a Pachmayr decelerator installed that it is somehow not a 'real' Savage 99.... But the price was right & I wanted to replace the one I sadly had above that I sold. :slap:

This one will do for now....

Nice rig, blacktails or island elk won't notice the pachmayr :D
Not all of them are collectors, there are some that just beg to get out hunting! Apparently that is what they were designed for
I got myself a nice little premil 99F in 243 that is pretty gray, but is going to work just fine. Now only if it is in the gun cabinet when I go to get it. My two son's were arguing over who was going to break it in this fall!

Very nice!

'Pre-Mil' refers to receivers under 1 million serial numbers.

My last two Savage 99's have been sub-1 million production.....

Nice rifle Canuck, betting that is a pre-mil....................as someone else said, it refers to the serial number being pre-million. Les

I see, that makes sense now.
Yes, it is a "pre-mil" - but just barely!!
Any idea on year of production fellas?

Really nice guns, I only have one Savage 99C but am trying to re-build it. I purchased it after looking for one for bout a year. I am ordering new stocks and alot of other parts I desperately need a safety slide mecanism for the top. If anyone has one extra kickin round or knows where I could buy one please let me know, any info would be helpfull.

could some one help me with a value, I have a 99 savage in 303sav it has a rear tang sight and a octagon barrel, the gun is in great shape, lots of blueing on barrel and reciever still.
any help would be great, I can't seem to find many like it. I am more of a winchester guy.

the serial number is in the 16000's so I believe it was made in 1900 or 1901 and it is a 1899B with octagon barrel, tang sight and 303sav

value ?

I am hoping to trade it for a nice winchester.

I am just doing more research then I will probaly post it.

250 sav,for your .308 you could check the lever boss code.On the front of your lever boss(the hinge for the lever)there should be a number with a letter inside a small oval stamped. These can be very hard to read, get a good light and a magnifying glass.Example 20A. The number is the inspector number but the letters started in 1949.So in the example above it would be a 1949 year of manufacture.A letter B would be a 1950 ect.The letter's I and O were not used to avoid confusion.Your other rifles are probally older than 1949 so maybe Maddog,Trix or Violater will be able to help you out.

I have a takedown in 22 HP with a 205### serial number range that has been dated to 1917 so that should give you a rough idea for your .300

I bought some lever bushings and screws for my 99C from here: http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=089Zz99C

That's Numrich

I had them within two weeks.

Forgot to add, I have bought two 99's since last Nov when I used my first Savage Lever Action (a .300). Killed two deer and helped kill a moose with that .300 and basically fell in love.

I went for .308's though (a preference thing) and now own a 99C and a 99E and am looking for more..........especially my grandma's old 250/3000 if I can ever get whichever uncle presently has it to admit to having it.....

She used to use that out moose hunting! The last year she hunted my grandpa wouldn't let her go out for moose. Told her she could go for deer with the boys but he wanted to shoot his own moose this year thank you very much. She had got all the moose the two season's previous. Grandma was an excellent shot! :)
