The Stag 10s NR stripped receiver set thread

Talked to Stag about my lower being out of spec today. Their response was for me to talk to IRG about warranty and IRG is not picking up their phone nor answering emails so I guess I am SOL. I hope there isn't many lowers out there like mine from IRG as AE is sending Norgon Ambi Catches to affected customers as a quick and easy fix. Definitely went with the wrong vendor this time, lesson learned.

Last week they said they would not be answering phones in order to get everything shipped out. They advised phoning the Arizona shop if you needed anything.

Strange as Stag is a reputable company with good QC.

the fact that it doesnt retain my KAC M110 mag is a huge piss off.

It works so far with pmag and xcr 10rd so Im not losing my s**t

I have yet to pin point the problem to the mag catch but I am hoping that its a simple cheap fix if it is, and machining to fix it is not required.

Only a couple of my Magpul pmags will latch in my Stag 10 MLOK in 6.5CM. The others can be pulled free and my 10 round pistol mags won’t even latch and drop right out. I ordered an Ambi Mag release from TNA and that solved the problem. ALL of my mags now lock up solid and drop free.

Funny enough my upper/lower Stag 10 receiver combo that I have waiting on a barrel is obviously in spec, all my mags lock up and drop free with no mods. And it is definitely a difference in the lower receivers. I swapped the mag catches between the two and it didn’t change a thing.

The way I see it, it could be a few things. One, the pocket that's milled for the mag catch isn't deep enough. Two, the mag catch is a bit to thick. Three, the protrusion that locks into the mag isn't big enough. Four, maybe the mag well is a tad generous.

If a norgon catch is the solution, I know which way I'm leaning.

Nice that's awesome. I really liked the weight, but maybe my experience was why they were revamped.
Excited to try my Timney Calvin Elite.

I've tried a bunch of Geissele's and the Eclipse and the Calvin, I'm not generally a Timney fan but the Calvin is the best AR trigger I've tried so far. Really want to try a AR gold also.

Yup. Just put the Timney in tonight and tried it a few times...Its really nice. The interchangeable and adjustable trigger shoes are a huge plus also so you can set it up for your hands/preference. The pull is very short and crisp as is the reset.

Also if you have a bolt gun try the Calvin Elite, the only thing missing is the adjustable trigger shoes, it's a great trigger.

I vote #3. Norgons are nice indeed, but may be overkill to correct the situation.

I suggest it is your mag catch (and that individual mag). Stag will do a warranty swap regardless. Talk to your dealer.

Thanks for the shout-out. Not sure we’re giving out Norgons, but we will swap out mag catches if someone is having an issue.

Is the Timney Calvin elite better than a triggertech ar trigger? I want something super nice for my stag. I’m used to nice triggers like the kidd two stage, tt diamond triggers etc...

Super nice? Geissele Automatics Hi Speed National Match kit. Breaks like glass, fully adjustable. Ultra fast lock time. Full power ignition. Three spring combos included to take you from Match/DMR/Service Rifle setups.

While I agree individual mags can be an issue, all of my Mag catches work perfectly fine in one Stag 10 lower receiver and the very same Mag catches barely work in the other Stag 10 lower. In the good lower all of my mags would lock in. On the other lower only 2 of 25 PMAGS would lock in (the rest of the pmags come out with a light tug) and the metal pistol mags wouldn’t even come close. It didn’t matter which Mag catch was used, and I tried 2 Stag, 1 Daniel Defense and a Colt Mag catch. The Ambi Mag catch I picked up solved the issue, ALL of my mags now lock in solid and drop free.

Glad to hear in the end. Norgon Ambi-Catch is a good piece of kit.

Nice, is it the actual catch that is longer on the Norgon? Like the little tab that protrudes and catches the mag. I dont suppose you took a picture of the two catches side by side ?
Mine locks in Pmags just fine but my metal XCR mags wont catch at all and just drop free. I tried a couple of other mag catches from DPMS amd same thing. Looking at them side by side and they are dimensionally identical. I was looking at the TNA ambi mag release since my buddy swapped his out from his BCL and it seems to have done the trick also. The TNA BCL version is a touch longer on the threads but he was just going to cut it down to sit flush with the button. I was looking at the 2.0 Canada leaf version at TNA since I am feeling cheap.

just picked up a receiver set today - M110 mags, XCR mags and P-mags all work fine in mine.
The KAC mags are tight in the magwell, but that will smooth out over a bit of use.

I actually don’t have the Norgon. The Ambi Mag catch I picked up from TNA is the 2.0 Canada leaf version. Works great and no more mag issues. The catch on it might be slightly longer but I think it works because of the way it sits in the slot.

I had no issues with the factory mag catch on my receiver kit but immediately swapped out the factory one for a spare diemaco ambi release. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was there same ar size unlike the bcl102 i had.

I had zero issues with my build. Closest thing to a problem was the barrel extension was tighter than a nun to get it in place. Otherwise it's perfect so far other than the battle scars it got going from stag to me.
