The T97 Thread!

Update:

Contacted George at North Sylva and he was able to procure the parts, all around great customer service experience. Gun is functioning properly after replacing gas block components. Highly recommend reaching out regarding spare parts/replacements...

Well now! That is just great to hear!. If owners look carefully at the legal/required name of the model on their rifle, it says T97NSR-A ... try two guesses what the NSR stands for?

It's great to hear/read that the folks at North Silva Rifles now finally able to provide decent after-purchase care and back-up and parts. I am thinking that the earlier griping (well-known here) service "issues" were not the fault of NSA ... the folks who jumped through all them legal hoops) and spent some serious legal coin just to get the rifle OK'd by the RCMP.

But, unfortunately, Prime Minister Trudeau is now comfortably "back in the saddle again" ... and he *still* has Bill Blair on speed-dial ... and ... like the distant glow from Mount Doom on the horizon in Mordor (where The Shadows lie), the steel-smelters in Liberal-rich southern Ontario are now warming-up ... and excitedly waiting for about 15,000 scary-looking $1500 AR15's.

We shoulda sent them to Ukraine a month ago.

Anyone who is looking for a quality soft case for their T97 should take a looks at the Savior Equipment T.G.B 34" Discreet Tactical Rifle Soft Case Multi-Firearm Carrier Shoulder Sling Pack Padded Bug-Out Bag For Concealed Carry - Low Profile, Hidden MOLLE Panel, Hook-N-Loop Webbing.

It comes in 30" and 34" sizes, but the company's sizing guide (in one of the photos) specifically says the 34" will accommodate rifles up to 32". So, just about perfect for the 30" T97 ... leaving one spare inch at each end.

The same case is available in a rectangular shape and comes with two proper backpack straps instead of the single-sling carry of the slightly tapered model (described above) that I ordered.

Possible M-Lok issues on the current T97 NSR Gen 3 rifle ...

I am not the first person to mention this online.

The Olight Odin Mini appears to be the perfect "light-system" for the little Norinco, and I recently researched / looked-at many. I ordered one and it arrived today. It required a sharpened pry-bar (actually, a KABAR BK-2) to finally open the box, but I was impressed. I read the instructions and carefully mounted it on the T97 ... at the very front lower left-side M-lok slot on the hand guard.

And, unfortunately noticed what somebody else (at the excellent Black Bear Outdoors website on Youtube) had noted ... when the flashlight and mounting bracket are in your hands, the motions attaching them ... and then separating them ... are both slick and smooth. However, when mount-and-flashlight are then properly M-Locked onto the T97's M-Lock slot ... the flashlight can no longer be removed. Something internal jams up. A design flaw, or sloppy tolerances ... I don't know.

It's not a deal-breaker ... because the Olight is such a perfect match to the little rifle. Plus, it only takes a minute or two with the supplied Allen wrench to loosen or tighten the two M-Lok attachment bolts. They actually provide two spare nuts/bolts (with bolts already Loctited!), in case you drop one of the originals into the grass.

Like, how often do you really need to remove the flashlight from its bracket? And the occasional recharging can still be done awkwardly (even with the short charging cord) with your rifle snuggled up to the iMac on your desk. (It's a Very Albertan Look ... and a great conversation-starter for when folks arrive for a supper party. Breaks the ice ... talking about the issue of pre-dawn coyote raids on your kids' chicken coop ... :

Hint/Warning - Maybe keep that magnet-end of the charging cord away from your external hard-drives / thumb-drives. Or maybe they're no longer affected by magnetic fields???

I do remember that magnet scene in "The Big Easy" ...

The t97 g3 has an unusual stock and cheek position. Is it possible to mount a scope too low that it becomes uncomfortable to shoot?

I recently mounted a Vortex Crossfire onto my new T97. At first I tried it without the available riser ... figuring that having the sightline as close to the bore as possible would be optimum ... but it was just too darned low for proper sighting. Then I tried it with the included skeletonized riser, and that solved the sightline issue. But to me, it just looked so vulnerable sitting so high on the rail ... and sighting it in at 50 yards would involve a major angle-of-climb from the muzzle to the target. Which would make accurate closer-in shots something of a guesstimation game.

And then I saw a discounted version version of the Vortex Sparc (basically the same technology) being cleared at Cabelas and marked down from $299 to $199 ... which was what I had just paid for the newer Crossfire a week earlier. But the Sparc (with two different mounts plus an additional/available small intermediary booster plate) offered four different mounting heights ... compared to the Crossfire's two ... high and low.

The third-highest height was the sweet spot for me. Great eye alignment, and with the unskeletonized larger riser, it just looks more solid and "of a piece" ... the Goldilocks solution. Anybody wanna buy a brand new Crossfire?

I mounted a Bushnell 1-8x AR scope. It is in a Burris QD P.E.P.R mount. It is the perfect height for me. The Burris mount is solid, but very heavy though. Wish it didn't weigh as much as it does.
Is there any trigger upgrades available?

I have the Brurris PEPR as well, with a Leupold Freedom VX 1.5-4X. I like the mount but the oversized bolt heads interfered with my charging handle installed on the left side. I had to move it back to the right unfortunately.

I can only manage to get 3 inch low zero at 50yards with iron sights. There's no more adjustments to be made on the front post to bring the zero higher. Is this simply due to height over bore?

Anybody running P mags with no issues?
I only have Pmags because I like them. Thinking of getting a gen 3 but want to know if the pmags will fit

Current Status, April 11th 2022: The T97.ca LHG returns from bead blast Tuesday evening, April 12th. April 13th, LHG components go to anodizing for approximately 2 weeks, with assembly to follow (a 10 days process, approximately). Thank-you for your patience.

Just saw this on the t97.ca website

I just realized I can maybe lower the front post enough by placing the front sight in half closed (45 degree position).

I also acquired some countersunk extra hardened screws to replace the factory flat top rail screws. This is supposed to ensure that top rail centers itself each time and keep zero. I only fired my t97 22 shots and already the top rail screws were loose!

If that is the general situation for most people, it might explain why so many people seem to remove the sights and just go with a red-dot optic. That's what I did after watching the excellent Black Bear Outdoors T97 videos on Youtube. He too prefers a 50 yd zero. I first installed a Vortex Crossfire as low to the bore as possible, but that made for a very awkward cheek-weld. I placed it onto the included available riser, and the cheek-weld was optimum but the optic looked kind of fragile and spindly and vulnerable.

And then a discontinued Vortex Sparc went on sale at Cabelas for the same price ($200) that I'd paid locally for the Crossfire. The Sparc works perfect and looks better. The Crossfire is now sitting in a box ... never even used.
