That actually doesn't look too bad. If I were to do this multiple times (to justify purchase of the tools) I'd likely do it myself after watching this.
That said, I did find a gunsmith to do it for me. Will post report once I get it back.
Very nice

Is the LHG available at all anymore? It seems to be discontinued for some unfathomable reason...
Ah that's such a bummer!!! Why isn't he making it anymore, has anybody found out? The T97 is really quite popular and not prohibited, i don't know why he would stop unless the Gen 4 comes with an updated lower that makes it redundant, but i haven't heard anything about that. If he never intends on making it again it would be great if he sold the design to someone who will, or hell even open source it so anyone can.
I’m not so sure, I haven’t talked to them directly. Just what I’ve heard.
I wish they continued with the accessories too... now I have nearly pointless screw holes on my lowers lol.
So the stock one that come with it works pretty well. If anything I find the weight of my right hand against the mag prevents it from dropping. Just going to take time getting used with the 30 round mags.
Other ones I have tried
- stock 5 round mag from Windham Weaponry Inc. is like butter. Feels better than the stock one.
- CPD (c products) pistol mag (orange followers) won't fit into the mag well. I try and it's really tight. I tried two different ones and same result.
In all instances I haven't been able to try it with ammo or at the range.
Troy battlemags fit beautifully in the T97. Even drops free on an empty mag!
So just a quick update.. After looking a little closer to why a pistol mag wouldn't fit into my G3 T97 I was able to figure out what the issue was
I tried a CPD (c products) Lar-15 mag and I was able to get it to go however it was extremely tight. So much so, I had to use a vice to pull out the mag. I examined the marking on the mag and inside the mag well and was able to determine the root of the problem. The spine of the mag is out of spec and rubs against the "rails" in the magwell. Using my vice I applied pressure to the sides of the spine to get it back to spec and now it's smooth as butter
Some tips..
1. Don't apply to much pressure to the spine. The amount you need to adjust is not measurable by the human eye or a measuring tape. It's probably a 1mm adjustment from both sides
2. Go slow.. Squeeze, try to insert into magwell and if it's still tight repeat.
3. Let the base plate hang out on one end to avoid any damage to it
4. Apply downward pressure with the palm of your hand as you tighten the vice, this will ensure it doesn't pop-out and pressure is evenly applied.
hope this helps!
I spoke to him recently and he stated that it's too risky right now with the political landscape.
No idea who actually did it. I just brought it into Calgary shooting center. They did it in a lathe though with the barrel out. 0.0625” over 1/2” sounds like a lot to me if the OD of 1/2-28 thread is actually a half inch....
I wouldn’t ram a die into it with that much excess myself. But I don’t know really.
Did you take off the brake yourself?
They did it. It’s pinned and that’s it. No threads under it.
Do you know if they had to press it off? What did they charge you?
I’m not sure how they got it off. Doesn’t look damaged at all.
It was included in the price of threading the barrel so not sure for that specific part
I had folks from TNA remove the pinned flash hider and thread the barrel for me. It was only 60$, but they didn't do a great job at it. Threads they cut are kinda loose, and I had to ghetto rig it with half shims to get new muzzle device to align with the bore properly. It was a pain in the 6, and using a big brake is out of the question. Had to settle on A2, which is still nicer than default device, but not exactly what I wanted.
