how did you remove the original mag release, mine seems like its screwed to lock in. any tips?

It's apparently pinned in place. You'll have to knock out the pin and then take the rifle to a gunsmith to get the barrel threaded to accept western muzzle devices.

That's concerning, but glad its fixed.
 
Can someone add a link or PM me to a gun store where I can buy the LAR-15 mag that works in the t-97. I hear conflicting details on what works and what doesn't. Please only post a link if you actually have the combination of Lar15 Mag and T-97 that you have fired!

Ive had no problems with the ones from Questar,bought 5 of them,and 2 other black metal LAR15 mags from a local store,never had any issues and I've put around 1,000 rounds through my T97 now.

I asked Questar on there forum page before posting here but still no reply. I guess I will order a few and see. Thanks for the reply.

I have run grey and black LAR mags thru it without issue.

I have run 4 out of my 5 grey LAR mags without issue. One of them is a tighter fit and does not snap into place nicely and with zero effort as the others do, you need to push it in hard and the mag release ends up stuck when you try to drop the mag. That one never feeds properly, it just jams the bullet into the brass. I have since marked it as a dud, and now I'm trying to see what the difference is between them. To the eye, they are identical. I should grease it up and see where it leaves marks on the magwell.
 
Got my T97 from Wanstalls just this past week. The FTU arrived today so after feeding 20 rds through it I installed the mod. The FTU manual says it can be done in 15 min and I am sure some HERO will tell us they did it in this time. I find it hard to believe myself or it would look like $hit! It took me closer to 1 hour by the time I painted the cuts and put it all back together. The hardest part for me was removing the rivet from the charging handle. That alone took a good 10 min.

I don't have one of these rifles, but I've read on here that the Gen 3s don't fit well, but Gen 2s will fit no problem.
