trimmed sks barrel

Looking good tazz! Out of curiosity, what did the setup from CNC warrior set you back? I still need to do something with the end of my SKS, just undecided on what to do.

Hey.
$116 and change delivered.
are you gonna remove the front sight and lug?

Because of the way that a pipe cutter works, I would suspect that there is a burr right at the muzzle. Shooting might eliminate it, but it would be really easy to break the edge by using a brass round head screw, an electric drill, and valve grinding compound. This would put a very nice finish on the edge of the rifling.

What is meant by the "brass screw" that everybody mentions during crowning threads? What does it look like, how is it used?

Hey guys
ok.
so finally got out to Borden and was able to take a few shots at 100M, now remember that I'm not that good of shot and it was dam cold and very windy. and I'm not a good shot..lol

once I reset my sight alittle I was able to at least keep the shots on paper (kinda) and somewhat in one area of the paper , not center but laying on the snow/ice loosing feeling in finger tips wasn't helping.
also my sight isn't what I expected for 100M , yes I can see target but doesn't really zoom in so maybe next year I will invest in new scope for the sks,
I was shooting surplus ammo with the wind possibly affecting the bullet
mainly kept rounds on target with my lack of skills anyway
hope this give you the info you were looking for.
Glenn.

Thanks
it was -5 without windchill only my hands were cold. thank god I took my snow suit ,
I'm sure in the hands of a better shooter it would have had better groupings
Glenn.

Thanks for keeping the thread updated. I've been sitting on buying the CNC Warrior kits for over a year. For my next build I'll be doing everything myself .. that way I'll actually get the result I want (here's hoping).

$200, like $200 Canadian dollars? Sorry but you got burned. A cut and crown from a good gunsmith ( as far as I know hi-cal doesn't have a gunsmith at all) is like $70...

$70 if you did it yourself you mean. $400 for the SKS I want is ok for me with a guarantee. I must have a high paying job.

I bought a 19" homemade chop job by "Grin" which turned to be a dud, he either used a torch or pipe cutter because rounds were all over the place. .307 neck. Also had to crown via the YouTube video. Never again!

I did cut the barrel on my SKS. Just used a regular metal saw.
I then used the brass screw method to recrown, it shoots as well as it did before (well, or as bad, depending on your perspective!).
I would not do that on an expensive or high quality rifle, but my SKS is my play gun. I cut, sand, paint, restock, ... just for fun!
