I took my 2 beagles out for a run this morning and one of the beagles came back with about 3 #4 shots in her hip and one in her front end.None are in her as I gave her a really thourow check.I guess some idiot out there does'nt know what a turkey or a beagle look like when they see them. I was on private property with about 500 acres and I was the only one able to be there but know now that does'nt mean s**t !
All I can say is what goes around comes around and paybacks are a real ##### !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I value my hounds just about as much as my wife so you mess with them you mess you me.
I'm curious to understand who owns the property you were on, and how you (know) were the only person with access to this 500 acres. Were you dead center in the 500 acre block or just along the boundary of the property? A simple but obvious point since if you were on the boundary of the property the dog could easily have wandered onto someone else's land.
Personally now for my opinion on this subject...
If I was on private property and I knew I was the only one entitled to be there (apart from the actual landowner) and someone shot my dog, then I'd be mighty pissed. BUT the fact that this happened outside of your sight and obviously hearing range tells me that the dog was ranging too far. If it's so far from you that you could not tell that the shot(s) you heard were at your dog, well then it's just oo far away.
It coulda been chasing deer, turkeys etc... it may have wandered off the property. In which case I'd only be pissed at myself for being so stupid as to not have control of the animal.
The other day I was sitting in my back room and all of a sudden a couple of mule deer came bounding out of the bush. Next thing along comes a dog that was definitely chasing these deer, and then along comes the dog owner and he stops to pat the dog. It looked like he was congratulating the goddamn dog for running the deer, but I don't know that... but the situation pissed me off. That dog should have been on a leash and not free to stress the damn deer like that.
IMHO
any dog that is chasing game needs to be controlled by the owner! That is the correct answer here, although
if I were a landowner and a dog was running on my porperty I would shoot it. Right or wrong, it's my property and I would not allow stray dogs to be on it, and I'd understand anyone else that did that...
NO PET IS EQUAL TO A PERSON. The people that are making statements like they would value the dog the same as a family member are nuts, IMHO.
