The vz58 is very well made. Is the metal thin on the type 81?

Looking closely at the pictures I'd say it's at least thick enough. More important is the type of Steel and the hardening/tempering of the it, and I don't recall bad steel being a problem with the stuff from China, at least not in the last ten years. Some of the other components look really beefy...the ejector looks like you could peel car bodies open with it.

I do get what you want to say, its not because its stamped steel that its crap but I really don't think you can compare the HK and Swiss Arms quality with the Chinese stuff.

Owned a Swiss arms and shot a G3, nothing about them overly impressed me. They're good guns but not the god like status some people give them.

If you want a pretty AK style gun, the Swiss Arms is only a low price of $4000. I will happily buy a type 81 instead :)

I don't think a Swiss Arm should cost 4K$

That been said, sometines quality is not always something that can be seen by naked eye.
Quality Control and better commodities cost more money.

I'm sure the SA and HK stamped parts are crack tested, etc... Chinese stuff, i'm not sure !

Actually the type 81 reciever is thicker then AK's.

It may look crudely built but so was my Pop's Norinco 1911 with a very poor bluing finish to it but boy did it run. Didn't have any issues withnit at all

Although I do think these are a good bit over priced, I have to agree the Norc 1911 are great, my unmarked govt model is getting broken in nicely with no problems/ accurate and so far all mags that I have work well and my np 27 just got its cherry broke 4 days ago and is stiff but will smoothen out with another couple hundred rounds, best bang for the buck, right up there with the TT33!

I'm 100% with you on the Norc 1911, which is one of the best firearms made by the Chinese.
But not all the Chinese stuff is well made as the Norc 1911's.

I understand some of the concerns about the strength/quality of the metal, but these aren't exotic materials. I think on the whole we can agree that most of the problems on all of the current offerings from China is the assembly QC, and pretty much all of that on M-305's. There is nothing wrong with Chinese Steel and Alloy's in general, so why assume it's going to be junk?

Since there is still a group convinced it's not "worth" $1k, let's consider other Chinese rifles. How much for a new CQ-A? I just took a quick scan and could only find a 10.5" in stock at $749. The last 14.5" I saw in stock was $699 (free shipping!). 1,000 rifles...that's it for now. What do you suppose it would cost to buy a CQ-A today if there was only going to be 1,000 confirmed rifles and only 1,000 of that type, nothing from any other source (assuming their current quality). Sure more may be on the way, but do I need to remind you where we live???? Nothing is certain when it comes to firearms in Canada.

If you don't "like" it fine don't get one, and if you like it but have this unrealistic expectation of the price, that's cool, there is likely going to be more on the way...I just wouldn't call it a done deal. Anyone have an idea of the cost of a place in line. I don't recall seeing it, or does TI typically ask for a known percentage in cases like this?
