I believe military T81s can take AK mags. This here I see is likely made with the same tooling for the export civilian sales which might be altered. Sri Lanken and Burmese rifles are commonly seen fitted with AK mags.

The AK mag they had didn't fit.

That shouldn't be confused as "all ak mags don't fit" or that it has been altered not to accept them.

That I don't doubt. Although I'm looking for advantages for use.

Is it better for wear? Why do armies choose it? Non reflective, better against rust? Idk

If you properly saturate it with a heavy oil or grease, something thick and waxy like Cosmoline is ideal, you wind up with a finish that's impressively corrosion resistant and solidly scratch resistant.

Without it, or you're just running a lightweight oil, Parkerizing sucks like an unseasoned cast iron frying pan sucks.

What are advantages of a parkerized finish over a blued one? I know military guns are generally parkerized and they hold oil better.

I also spoke to a friend of mine who was in the Chinese militia, and he says the Type 81 he used was more of a parkerized finish, but the ones in pics seem to mostly be blued.

Parkerized finish is better for military guns as it is more durable, holds oil better and prevents rust better then blueing.

Cool. So why would the Chinese army opt for the majority of their guns to be blued? I know they have some parkerized 81's. Why not all?

No clue but all the T97's and T95's steel parts are parkerized and every Nato Country parkerizes their steel guns too.

Looks like they cleaned the bore, when I had my hands on it, it was bad. Corroded and dark.

See! The magic of Chrome! Haha

I will not make any final judgments until the rifle has landed in its non prototype format. I also believe this rifle chambered in 5.45x39mm would be awesome and would finally open up Canada to 5.45x39mm surplus ammunition.

(philosophizing) .... If I got a T81 like that, id certainly want to wire brush ALL of that god awful grey finish off and get the gun professionally blued. Id make custom AK furniture for it cus that Chinese wood looks like they cut it out with a hatchet lol. looks like I would also have to move the safety to the other side so I could have room for a POSP side plate. AND of course modify the receiver to hold AK mags.

I think the gun has potential..... but I'll definitely be waiting for the Guinea Pigs to torture test them out first before I invest.

How was the gun weight wise (not balance wise) compared to an SKS ? it looks heavy.

Having played with it today and chatting up Nick (which is a pretty nice and patient guy) I do have to say I was more impressed then what I originally thought.
Everything is nice and tight and holds together well.

Definitely not like an sks in anyway. I field stripped it and it's NOTHING like an sks.

999$ to me is fairly good in my eyes considering VZ rifles are in the 1300$ + range and that this seriously passed the riggers of the rcmp rubber stamp

I commend TI for bringing these in and trying.

Seeing pics of it are one thing, holding, playing, field stripping in hands are another.

I for oNE will be purchasing it (if not 2) everyone else who has second thoughts, get out of the way then so I can buy more spare mags :)

First, that finish may look "God awful" but it more then works for what it needs. That finish will stand up way better then any bluing.

Second, it's light for a stamped metal rifle
