The bolt holds open to the rear. You can try to top load through the top cover but it does fold over the top of the mag from what is seen in pics. Depends on the size of your fingers.
If you look at the pic above your post you can see the action quite clearly and the size of the ejection area. Top loading should be doable.

$1000 seems kinda steep for a rifle that I don't really see any value in for hunting purposes. Don't get me wrong, I want one, I would still like one for plinking and playing at the range, but I've got too many "play" rifles and not enough hunting rifles at the moment. Maybe next year I can pick one up! Good looking rifles though!
Hahaha you make a terrific point Dr.Islay! I guess I should word it as my PLAY to HUNTING rifle ratio has become too far skewed in favour of the play rifles. I need to acquire more hunting rifles to re-balance out my ratio!

Millions of Type 81's fielded in semi auto? In many countries converted autos are legal as semi auto guns. That doesn't work here. So any gun coming here potentially is built differently even as a semi auto.
So with that in mind, it's a prototype. As such it doesn't have to be pretty.

I remember someone saying that production started. Delivery date is still Q3 2016, so july-september. TI also said that they are going to send an envoy to china to inspect the guns before they import them.

I'm going to try and resist the temptation until after the first shipment comes in.
Really hoping the Type 81 turns out to be a winner that can fill the boots left by the Cz 858. It seems like the last couple of new imports have popped onto the market, and then faded out.
I think it's important that we have these base line "tactical" rifles, like the Cz 858 or Norinco M305, to give newcomers access to a good, modern rifle without having to dump $2000+. Here's to hoping the Type 81 is a winner.
