Type 81 'M' Reviews, suggestions, upgrades

Does Samson ship to Canada? I see their Canadian dealer Canadian Safety Source has none and neither does Nordic Marksman. Can always do Az_Arm but the are more $$$

They must get whole sale price.
I just looked at with just basic conversion im looking at about 100 USD by the time it lands in my mailbox in Blaine.
They are selling it for about 100 CAD plus shipping.
Eithet samson gives them these things at 50% off whole sale... or they have about 5% margin... which is way too low.
Nordic price is 105 bux now.

If you feel like a little road trip... ship it to American Mailbox in niagra falls. Its 9.99 usps and 2.50 for the parcel pickup service.
I do it all the time here in blaine washington.
My nexus card pays off.
Right now waiting for a mag loader for a return customer in albera to arrive so forward it to him. :D
And i get to fuel up with cheap gas

Samson Manufacturing price is USD 77.25 and the Az..Arm... price is USD 89.99. After conversion it comes to over C$100. Including miscl. it is close to C$150. Much too much for a piece of plastic. So, as I mentioned above, I quitted and went the paracord way which cost me C$17. After shooting for a while with a paracord wrap, I feel it's absolutely sufficient for my liking.
By the way, from my place to Niagara Falls is over 120 km one way!

Here is a pic of mine with one of the "fakelite" mags I am also working on. The samson cheek rest fits snugly and is awesome

I don't need it anymore. My paracord wrap here is good enough: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...pression-shooting-Type-81M-Underfolder-at-25y.
And I can assure you that they make a lot of money on that piece. A 3-D printed piece of plastic with a few screws.

Hey Dmitri!
Thanks for all that useful info. I just refinished the wood on mine, and was able to get the exact result I had in mind. The wood burning does a wonderful job.
I’m not totally satisfied with the finish tho, I have an orange peel finish due to the outside air temperature when I sprayed it (7-8 degrees). But that’s all good, for now I’ll enjoy some shooting and re-do the finish when Mother Earth gives us better weather!😎

The Samson cheek rest is aluminum not plastic. Its very high quality and fits snug on the folders rail and could hold there by itself before the screws are even tightened on

O.K. stand corrected with aluminum. However, even if it's aluminum, still too expensive for my taste. My paracord wrap is much cheaper and I'm already used to it. On top of it, the Type 81 is not a target rifle so, even at 100m, either the cheek rest or paracord don't make a big difference for me.

No problem. Glad you like it. As for the finish, it could be few different reasons for orange peal.. Sometimes when stain is not completely dry it turns out spotty like that, and once the first coat dries like that, it just stays like that to the last coat. Give it a week, maybe then sand it just until its smooth, do few more coats and Bobs yur uncle :)
This time, even if you spray outside bring it in to warmer area to dry. And dont go too thick on the coats to avoid runs and build up on the lower edges..

First upgrade… Slant brake

Much better than the OEM plain jane thread protector… Lol

Does anyone have any options for side mounts or a red dot mount of sorts for the folders? Is it possible to find a fixed stock to replace the underfolders?

There's some stocks made for the yugo underfolders but it's fairly jank.

You'd need to swap the rear trunnion and that's an aggressive job to do, especially without having a "parts" trunnion to fit (is it the same width as AK trunnions?).
Complete shizo option is to just weld 'er on lol but I am going to get hzed for even suggesting that.

AK trunions are wider, they could be modifed but it would be a good amount of work. The other issue is the step down design of the Type 81, the t81 trunions are smaller on the bottom and wider on the top. The AK trunion is one width, and even that is wider than the top width of the t81 trunion.

Also, I was looking into fitting a Romanian UF stock onto the T81 (I like the detent it has to lock the butt open), but the T81 folding stock hardware is much smaller than the Romanian one so it would not work. I will compare with some other countries UFs to check if its just the Romanian UF that is oversized or if the T81 hardware is undersized. I am thinking its the T81 hardware that is undersized though

That one ebay mount many are talking about seems about as ideal as it gets for underfolders. Zastava in the States has kindov the same concept for their underfolders.

I got mine finally. Had them for a couple days and cleaned them both up. They're both good examples of Type 81 so Im not sure if one is way better than the other. They both feel like ass in comparison to my original side folder though but I went into this knowing underfolders feel like crap.

I thought I was high on crack or something because one gun definitely felt more comfortable than the other when shoulding it. Closer look and one has a stock that's straight while the other is slightly canted. The one that's slightly canted feels much better as it's not pushing into my chin as hard.

Has anyone received any of those direct fit mounts? Any pics ??
I have a feeling that it might interfere with Samson cheek riser.
I am on the waiting list for one of those mounts.. from the guy on #######.. he says the shipment is delayed by CP. Hope to get one soon and test it out for my self.
