Type 81 Owners Corner !

Magpul Moe AK grip on a type 81 anyone :)

I had to do a stupid amount of grinding to get it to fit around the grip pan (not fun).

The screw that comes with the Moe grip is the correct thread pitch and bolted right up, but you almost need three hands to get everything lined up.

Overall I think it looks pretty good, and for me it feels much better than the stock grip.

Since TI only sent me two mags and tried to get me to take a refund for my spare mags via emt  I think my next project will be modding 10rd AK pmags to fit my rifle.

Take an overall pic of it for us!!!!

When did you order those mags ti tried to reneg on?

Placed my order late in the game on October 31. I'm all for people who ordered early to get all their mags first.

That said I don't want to let TI get out of paying for the shipping on my spare mags if I ever do see them.

I put the MOE AK grip on mine as well, modding an AK pmag is pretty easy, takes a couple min with a dremel, I'll post another pic tomorrow when I'm on the computer.

Dremel to fit. Although it will weaken already weak design. AK pmags are garbage. Better than Tapco but still

I plan to modify a metal AK mag in the milling machine once I have a real mag (and rifle) to copy and test.

IF (big if) I ever get my rifle, I'll post photos when I do the mod.

Details on how you did the AK pmag mod would be appreciated, thanks :)

Just need to lower the front lip above the catch and then narrow it a little in front of the mag lips, I cut the back down low like the factory mag then realized I cut more than double what is actually needed. Still works perfectly and I've run about 50 rounds through it with no failures.
I also had to do a little adjustment to the magazine follower so that I could insert the mag on a closed bolt with 5 rounds loaded. It was a little tight before.

And how/where are they weak? I don't need to be able to drive over my magazines with a truck. Starting to think you don't like Magpul. Or do you just think that anything "plastic" is junk?. Have you personally had one fail in some way while you were using it? Is there a better option? Other than steal AK magazines? I don't want all my mags to be 5/30.

Put another 40 rounds through it yesterday with no failures. My target at 100 yards was not impressive, about 12 inches of vertical but only 4 inches of horizontal, I'm going to say that a lot of that is probably me sucking with these type of sights. I can do pretty good with diopter sights but these are not good with my eyes for accurate shooting. My target at 50 yards was much better, 7 out of 10 shots in a 3 inch wide by just over 1 inch high. I can see much better at close range. What actually matters is that I can slam the heck out of my plates at 25 and 50 yards almost every shot standing shooting freehand.
I think that once we figure out a way to mount an optic to these the groups will shrink a lot proving that most of us simply suck with the irons and the rifle is capable of half decent (not horrible) accuracy. It's definitely no tack driver but I think it's better than I can shoot with these sights.

My sights after modifying them in case any of you missed the pics in the other thread. I left the "ears" on each side but cut them down so that when the sights were adjusted to max elevation they are flush with the top of the block.

Just for fun now that I've had this thing apart more than a few times I stripped it down yesterday wearing gloves (without using any tools at all), I was able to get everything apart in well under a minute and once cleaning was done it was seconds to put it back together.

I wasn't critisizing your mods, good job on that :).

My comment was more of an observation, I am pretty sure for civilian use AK Pmags are fine. We don't really need milspec stuff, I just feel a bit ripped of when I buy inferior things.

You don't have to drive over AK Pmag with a truck. Just drop it loaded, feed-lips to hard surface. All original AK mags have steel reinforcements at the top of the mag specifically to make them live longer in the field.

IMO best AK mags (besides all-steel) are bake-lite with steel reinforcements. AR Lancer magazines are of the same concept.

I'm pretty sure you will get it. I had once a $4K order from TI being late for 2 months and zero communication, just a canned response. I got the item eventually.

I will be grateful for metal mags mod instructions. I think I remember you bought some SKS-D mags from Lever Arms, those should be useful for zeroing.
