Type 81 Owners Corner !

Question for you - is the plate AR500? Steel core ammo? Any issues in beating up the gong unduly?

I have about 2 dozen plates of various types that get lots of use. I only use 1/2" AR500 plates for rifles now. The 3/8" will eventually chip and crack but the 1/2" will take a serious beating and only really gets damaged on the edges, steel core or whatever ammo. I even shot one some AP 30-06 and it seemed ok.

Sometimes a 300 magnum or some other faster cartridge will also penetrate a well used and beat up 3/8" whereas the 1/2" will usually shrug it off. I have one 1/2" plate that has had over 600 hits with a 50 BMG at 300m and it's not damaged.

Now keep in mind my plates get many thousands of hits, so 3/8" plates will last a very long time for most users. Even using steel core 7.62x39 :)

I've read here on CGN about some clubs not allowing steel core to be shot at their gongs becuase they are worried about damage, but it's complete nonsense -assuming they are using AR500

don't know about you guys, but I definitely prefer Russian sling on my type 81
here is a simple mod:

also, not sure if all type81 are bent to the right, but, looks like mine is tilted, rather than bent:
I hope you can see the line that represents that. NOt a big deal-I can leave with that, as longs as the barrel+receiver align, which they do in my case.

also, please appreciate that crappy, absolutely horrible paint :( throughout whole rifle

I guess the tilt is corrected by unscrewing the butt plate and loosening the bolt that holds the buttstock in place

It may just be the angle of the camera but that one looks REALLY bad.
The rifle is pointed slightly to the left from the center of the lense and you can still see the barrel visibly going off to the right.
Yeesh.
I would not be happy with it. Rough machining, scratched receivers, dinged up wood/stocks, meh who cares about that nonsense. Good to go on cosmetic defects.
But crooked barrels and crooked stocks for $1K+!? I would be sending it back for 100% full refund for a replacement with dealer paying shipping.
That's unacceptable, I don't care how much people try to defend it. It's BS.

If TI knows there are bent barrels by now (how could they not) why are they still shipping them out to people instead of culling the junk from the shipment, putting them aside and only sending out straight rifles to people who paid a lot of money for them?

TI will be paying for return shipping they stated....Mine is at the post office will see tomorrow how bad it is

Got my folder on Sun along with all 7 mags I ordered . Not as bad as some pictured earlier but still visible issue. TI said my rifle is acceptable straight and they can't guarantee replacement will be better. So back for refund she went.

Good luck to those who stayed on the ship...

So is the 20% restocking fee realy a thing. F#*k I will probably be in the same boat as you not as bad as some I have seen but definitely a visible curve to the right in the bloody receiver also 4 out of 5 mags do not lock in good at all they rattle and move around every witch way.

Interesting there is old pitting under the bluing. I would suggest that butt[plate is a surplus part.

Because they tend to get locked after the usual Trolls invade like they are right now in the "Do you have your type81" thread!

The usual trolls don't even own one of these rifles which makes it more bizarre.
But some people have this inner need to trash others and it can be an inherited through familial genetics. BPD can be tough to live with and I've seen it clinically quite often.

If you are so offended by different opinions to your own, your parents were not fit to raise children.

Hey man, it's ok.

I actually had just a hint of rust on my butt plate. Didn't even notice till several days after I got it. Took it off and hit it with some steel wool and re blued it

Just got my folder. As far as I can tell from a quick glance and disassembly, it's free of any of the unfortunate failures in Chinese quality control that others have suffered. 2 out of 6 magazines, plus apology/explanation letter.
