Type 81 Owners Corner !

Put a couple hundred rounds through it this week, once sights were dialed in proper, she shoots true. Looking at about 3 MOA abouts. No bends, easy to strip down, rock solid, very happy.

So much win in this thread overall. No matter what we shoot in 7.62x39, $3K XCR-L or junky T81, it's always 3-4 MOA. Always..

let's just discount that 5th shot, which makes the group 8 MOA.

Lol, wait, I just thought about it. I was getting 4 inch groups at 50 yards so that's around 8 moa
Best part is that I couldn't care less, I have accurate guns, this one is for fun and chasing coyotes around the hay field.

Squidmeister definitely wins :p

Thanks.. I will double check that!

If it is in too far it usually just takes a little wiggle of the dust cover or cycling the action to reset it.
When removing the dust cover you also don't need to push it in past flush, you can see the step in the lower part of the button and it lets the dust cover rise over the steel lip at the back of the receiver then it just slides off rearward.

I modified my first AK mag to fit. A 5/10 Magpul plastic mag. Didn't take long with the dremel and it snaps in very nicely. I fit it a bit more snug than the factory mags but had I been a little more careful, I could have tightened up the play even more. Meh, it's probably good to have a bit of wiggle for ease of installation any way.

I modded a 5 round norinco AK mag also. Works like a charm, except for no BHO. Will make bench shooting this weekend at least possible.

Thanks for the info... when I went to put the dust cover back on... I found that a little tricky!

I have 1 of those mags to and have been lamenting on if to mod it or not. How about a pic with it in the gun? Got lots of 10 rounders but only 1 five rounder.

Givver, Nothing you do to it will stop it from working in an AK magwell.

I slide it forward with the opening in the back of the dust cover covering the lower 1/3 of the button till it clears the lip at the back of the receiver then push down and the button should pop through the opening. A little wiggle or cycling the action will pop it out fully if it doesn't reset to it's normal position after you push down on the dust cover.
Once you get the hang of it the rifle almost strips itself and goes back together even easier.

My thoughts exactly. Much nicer for shooting off a bench or hunting than the 5/30's. I hope to get out Saturday afternoon and put a few rounds through it and see how accurate it is.

I have a metal 5 rounder and a couple metal 5/10's on the way that I'll modify as well.

Don;t forget you have to also mod the back of the mag to clear the BHO, else it won;t rock in and you could break the BHO if you try to force it!!!

Stripped and cleaned, wanted to take it shooting but wx is not cooperating so that'll have to wait a bit yet. Came apart and went back together easy, even the dust cover just pops in when after a few tries you've learned how it likes to be fiddled. One thing that I don't know if I'm misremembering or not though is after reassembling the handguard, the sight mark now no longer wants to return to "1" without what seems like a lot more pressure than before? It rotates through all the other positions fine, and still pops out and in as it's supposed to but that "1" setting seems weird now.

You have it set to the 0 setting. There's a detent on the side of the sight the marks the usable number. Essentially, the 2 should be where your 1 is. To move from 0 to 1 you need to pull out the left knob and turn.
