Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

The rivets on mine are all tight and look fine....
I have 1000+ rnds thru mine and noticing slight deformation on the rear of the bolt and on the hammer as well. The receiver rails on which the bolt travels is loosing its finish and the rougher contact surfaces on the locking lugs has been polished smooth.

Anyone know where to get custom wood for the type 81?

there's no aftermarket nice wood stocks for them if that's what you're asking, but if you want just some nice wood to carve your own stock set a google search will show places in your area for nice timber, that way you can inspect it in person for nice figuring/grain

Well, it was requested I move my updates over to this thread. I just received my T81 yesterday and plan to start modifications during the fall and winter if work allows the free time.

The first modification I'm starting with is a short throw safety lever for the right side of the rifle.

I'm running into a few bumps in the prototyping working with wood and plastic as I dont have the ability to turn metal. If any machinists have some time to help me progress the first part of the process, send me a message.

I'd be interested in doing a small run of these if I'm happy with the final product, but I know they won't be cheap.

got a folder 1st batch no problems its straight rivets are good shot this last week 50m bench Romanian surplus 5 shots

I also discover that the folder cleaning kit base fits the gas adjustment groves and can be used to turn it (not sure if posted before as I did not read every page)

Never heard of that before but the gas regulator was designed to be used with the bottom of a shell..

i really hope this works out it looks so damn good

Thanks! If I get as much done tomorrow as I did today, I might be able to throw together a proof of concept video by the weekend. I had to upgrade a few tools to get some more accurate measurements, but it will be interesting to see how it functions in the field.

do you think you will be able to get it down to a drop in style part or will it require some moderate modification to the rifle?

So far it's looking like a drop-in part, but I want to try a few more designs. I'm not getting as clean of a throw as I had hoped. I'm playing with new detent styles that may require minor modification to the spring.

Edit: I broke down and purchased a 3D printer. This should help fix a lot of my tolerance issues and I'll be able to print a few different prototypes at a time.
