Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Version 3 is currently printing, progress has sped right up thanks to this printer. Ignore the ugly fake lever, it's just a placeholder while I perfect the last few measurements.[/QUOTE]

any update?

I'm working on a new separate drop in piece for a detent assembly. Essentially bypassing the current detent spring with a new assembly that shouldn't require any permanent modifications to the rifle. It will be replacing the grip screw nut and using the screw to mount it securely within the receiver. The new detent style should allow for a much tighter radius swing of the lever.

if all goes well with this mod, which it looks like it is going to, you should consider mass producing it for sale.

Unfortunately I just don't see the market for it as the T81 is a fairly limited run. If they were to produce a version that included my adaptation, or bump up production for the Canadian market it might stand a chance. I'll look into producing a few kits with the final design for those of you that are interested.

Should i dare to order a geissle trigger to see if it works? I havent got the gun yet. But my google experience tells me the FCG is very similar, if not borrowed from the AK

not many dealer carry AK parts in canada especially specialty parts so if its coming from the US, you better check if its legal to import/export before you take a $300 gamble.

Definitely interested for 1 kit

Brownells export geissele triggers without any export cost, bought 13 geissele triggers from them in the last 5 years

13? wow, you must really like those triggers. brownells should know if triggers for prohib are exportable and importable to canada. i know someone who got their AK furniture seized by customs.

I cant find any triggera that top it. Timney come close but its still miles behind.

Our prohib status has nothing to do with their export laws. Otherwise AK pmags wouldn't been able to make it into canada

ak furniture are not illegal to import or own, if they were seized it was from our bumblef**k cbsa agents ignorance and rotten luck

and Geissele triggers are fantastic, if you get one you wont be disappointed. not sure about compatibility for the ak one but if you get an AR trigger from them you'll love it

i beg to differ, you guys got to read up importing firearms parts. the pmags are not made exclusive to prohib ak, it also fit non-prohib rifles like m305b, m10x & sks-d.

having said that it seems alot of magpul ak furniture also has no issue getting in.

If there is a problem, It wont be with Canada, it will be the Americans.

I bring in AK/SVD stuff from EU, Russia and Israel and have never had a problem. Receivers, prohibited accessories like suppressors, full auto components and un pinned magazines are the only things I believe Canadian customs will have a problem with.

we are lucky, it never happened me either but when you consider thousands of parcel that flow in a day and unless the custom officers knows alot about guns and can determine whether the part is for a prohib or not (on xray no less), it will come thru.

unfortunately for the person i know, his was spotted and sent to HQ for further determination, they decided to seize. just letting you guys know.

Then he must've brought in some illegal stuff.

I have the itar hand book here. As long as the items is not on the SME control list, 90% of the time it is legal to export. There are few others criteria which it has to meet. A registered exporter and also a registered manufacturer with the DoS etc. But for the most part, small arms item exclude muzzle devices are ok for export without a permit. With permit, which i do, i have exported a dozen AR barrels, and uppers. I have also brought in full auto AR trigger parts as well. Only thing cbsa will seize is as stated above. All handgun barrel shorter than 106mm, all prohib receivers, silencers and all un pin mags. Other than that, as long as you have your IIC and paid your taxes, sky is the limit.

Our laws doesnt stack with US laws meaning as long as the US allows it, they dont care if its NR , restricted or prohib in canada. Its up to us to determine if its admissble here. If i got 300$ to burn, i can order a sig 229 3.9 inch barrel just to have cbsa seizes it, but the US will ship it because i got my permit in place.

And by your logic, they cant seize my geissele ak triggers as that will fit my valmet....

Sky52: Just to be clear we are talking about no paperwork and not about your trigger. Obviously, it was illegal stuff cos they seized the dude's ak wood furniture.

And yet, I know a lot of members who bought magpul ak furniture from brownell without a hitch, except one fellow , costums held his for a week longer. So I'm assuming brownell must the difference, im not sure.

Reminds me of this one time I bought a SVD cheek rest from Russia.... the Russian wrote on the package "car part" lol im willing to bet that act was to sneak past customs of various EU nations or Russia itself. Cus im 99% sure if it was labeled SVD cheek rest, Canadian customs wouldve checked it, then sent it on its way... tacking on a lovely $49 fee for the receiver in the process.

Like I said, Its mainly the US that restricts things. Not Canada. You often cant import a $500 optic from the States, but yet u can order one from somewhere off the continent no problem.
