Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

If there is a problem, It wont be with Canada, it will be the Americans.

I bring in AK/SVD stuff from EU, Russia and Israel and have never had a problem. Receivers, prohibited accessories like suppressors, full auto components and un pinned magazines are the only things I believe Canadian customs will have a problem with.

Try a 10rnd rem 597 22lr mag from brownells.....marked as such...new in the box....
I wrote a hand written letter with the SOR specific references from the Criminal Code of Canada explaining them what is and what is not actually a prohibited item. Aka I explained to the chief of CBSA how to do his ####ing job.
I got the mag back. In a large box filled to the top with shredded paper. Bunch of ####ing clowns is what they are.

Sky52: Just to be clear we are talking about no paperwork and not about your trigger. Obviously, it was illegal stuff cos they seized the dude's ak wood furniture.

And yet, I know a lot of members who bought magpul ak furniture from brownell without a hitch, except one fellow , costums held his for a week longer. So I'm assuming brownell must the difference, im not sure.

well, there is your problem. no paper works. Last time i couldn't even bring back a carton of cigarettes without paper work.....

Brownells is not the difference, the end user's luck is. As soon as it leaves US, its all on your luck. plain and simple

Same thing happen to my barrel last time from Brownells, held it for weeks on end. Called them and they said it got sent to the lab to make sure its not for a prohib. i said it is, technically a M16 is prohib but AR15 isn't. Confused the crap out of them, eventually got to my house after 6 weeks. whats more funny was that the cz858 receiver cover that i ordered the same time from Czech didn't even get looked at, and it was right around when they prohib it the first time around. It literally went in to customs at like 10am and got cleared at 10:05. lol.

So the more i look at pictures of the Ak trigger and the type 81 trigger. Type 81 trigger has a long tail on the bow, the Ak doesnt. Looks to me that ak trigger and hammer has same size pin, where type 81 has a larger hammer pin than the trigger. It may not work.

Quick question, any of you all have a sks or have ak spare sights, can you compare and see if ak/sks front sight post fits in the 81?

My shiaatty eyes are accustomed to fiber optic sight.

I got a 2 point Vickers Tactical sling with Magpul paraclips for my Type 81. Not only does it look good, but it is very functional.

I had to drop the stock mod, which is complicated and doesn't effectively reduce the length of pull

This thing is loads of fun, put about 300rds through it so far.

Has anyone tried to bend the mag release so it's not on an angle?

And is it true they are not bringing anymore of these to Canada?
