Great, so since they average about 5 years on anything tactical or scary, we should get a ruling sometime in the next 12 months.

But here's the kicker. The Chinese military literally built MILLIONS of these rifles. They literally have MILLIONS of Type 81 parts in their supply system as well. Even if they need to make new receivers or fire control group components to make them "not easily convertible", these things can be sold by them at SKS prices and still turn a profit for the PRC.

I'd bet my left nut that Norinco is asking under $300 a copy for these. Think about it, they can machine an 870 clone from billet steel and it sells for $350 here AFTER all transport, fees, markup, etc. In this case they will get to use TONS of parts already made and paid for on a stamped sheet metal receiver that can be quickly pressed out by the thousands.

But we are told (in 2011 with a par dollar) they they will cost $1200?

The tactical rifle tax is alive and well.

Hopefully CanAm does something sensible on pricing that sees enough of these imported to lower the likelihood of a very small number of them being banned ala Steyr Aug. Hopefully they sell them at Canadian Tire stores for $400 a pop and pollute the world with an inexpensive bush rifle.

Doesn't work that way. There is millions of Chinese SKS also but China is greedy too and started asking for higher prices so they weren't worth importing given the current price they could be sold at.

Just because they have tons of parts doesn't mean they will just want to hand them out for cheap.

LOL - Marstar was giving away FREE SKS rifles with a $250 purchase of a case of 7.62x39. And Marstar bought all the Chico SKS rifles in the last batch, gave them away FREE to get you to buy ammo, AND bought them at the "high price" other dealers didn't want to pay.

Without ammo purchase, they sold LOTS 2 years ago for $139 in unissued condition.

Go to the Canada Ammo website. All their stuff is NEW MADE in China, mostly of machined steel receivers, and most of it well under $400 a pop. A Type 81 is cheaper/faster to manufacture than a Grizzly mag-fed 12 gauge.

I can live with that WAY more than TI's estimate of $1200 back when the dollar was at par. That would be more like $1560 each today, or about double your planned price level.

I bet the problem is the dealers haven't pushed enough. When did canam submit a sample? Maybe it got "lost" in transport.

WAS, then China wanted more $$$ so it wasn't worth it. They didn't buy nearly all the Chinese sks's.

Yep and the next batch was too much $$$

There was a thread about it a while back. People asked why no more were coming in when there were obviously more to be had. Answer... Not worth the price.
 
watched the video, so weird, its like 3 guns in one, no wonder the RCMP have no clue.

Fwiw, there is an rcmp ombudsman that can be complained to if the lab is not doing their job. You have to make a complaint against a specific individual before they will investigate. It has happened in the past and people I know were able to force them to take action/make a ruling using this avenue.

ATIP requests can also be very "motivating".
