Type 97 Classification Issues - PART TWO

I got one of Clobbs rails, now what to do with it??????

I would hope you would use it...

Sigh...This is off topic and I didn't want to have to post this, but I want to point something out...

Many of the posters in this thread have never disassembled a type 97 and as such wouldn't know what's involved. But...from what I can see in the photos if you use the mount pictured in CanAm's posts above you will have to remove it every time you want to clean the gas system. The mount covers the parts of the rifle you need to remove to get at the piston. From the design of the mount it doesn't look like it was designed to be repeatedly removed or return to POI. Granted, cleaning the gas system isn't as much of an issue with a gas piston rifle that doesn't shoot corrosive ammo. I clean my rifle religiously after every session and let me tell you, the gas system gets quite dirty. My see through mount, and Can Am's original non-see though mount will allow you to clean the gas system without removing your optics. So would the original chinese scope. YMMV.

If you don't believe me, read the post below by Jack Brock, in my Original Type 97 thread...
Greetings Clobber,
Heres what I have done in the way of removing my gas piston retainer (Regulator), gas piston and gas piston spring. Yes you depress the gas regulator and it does not matter on mine go all the way left or right but before you can remove the piston and spring and if a rail or scope is mounted other than the little throw lever on the Chinese scope which is pressed tightly against the carrying handle when cammed in place, you can remove the take down pin that holds the pistol grip trigger assembly and carrying handle then MOVE (slide) the carrying handle upper, Back a Half Inch to clear the gas regulator for removal either left or right that way it will slide along the underside of a rail. Then you have the clearance to rotate the regulator (retainer) all the way Left or right and pull it out.
The piston was filthy and need a Appropriate chop stick (Cleaning rod) pressed into the chamber to free it up as there was a lot of carbon(no shaking here) and out she came. I'm glad you asked as I did not want to have to re-zero my optics with each cleaning. I cleaned the piston dropped in the spring the piston and returned the regulator then slid the carrying handle forward and wala. Done like dinner. i suppose you want a picture?? This is actually good as I had no manual with mine. I hope this helps others like you said Clobber.

I apologize to Can Am for having to point this out in this thread.

Hey Guys, now that we're paying criminals for their sore feet... (see the link...)

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Taxpayers+killer+pain+suffering+worn+sneakers/2041129/story.html

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, we can use the same law to prove that law abiding firearm owners/citizens are being abused by the RCMP who have decided to HOLD AN INDEFINITE FRT REVIEW of the T97 rifle...

Quote "the decision breaks new ground by awarding damages for “misfeasance in public office” — an old and rarely successful type of civil action against government officials for intentional abuses of power."

IMHO, what the RCMP is doing by pulling the FRT & putting it under INDEFINITE REVIEW... IS abuse of power & they need to be held to account... Maybe this is the way to go???

What do you guys think???

Cheers
Jay

I don't know Jay.

A Type 97 owner, like myself, would have to prove that the RCMP caused me mental or physical harm.

Has this issue kept me up at nights? Well, yes, it has at times. I sunk a bunch of money into scope rails that have no chance of selling now. It didn't so much cause me any financial hardship (the first rule of business is don't spend money you don't have) though I must admit having no return on a several thousand dollar investment was hard to swallow.

But....I was quite embarrassed, especially to my friends and family who I told about the venture. But was this the RCMP's fault? Well yeah it is, if they are interpreting the law incorrectly.

So yeah, I guess this issue has caused me some concern. I'm also concerned about the classification of the rifle. I don't want to end up taking a prohibited rifle to the range unknowingly. That's why I tend to call them every time I go to the range to check the classification,

Also, the RCMP have effectively made my property worthless. I can't transfer it to anyone, so I can't sell it (even if I wanted to)...

Perhaps Paul Morrison would care to offer his two cents on this issue.

Edit: I just re-read this. I don't want to come off as if I'm bemoaning this issue 24/7. I'm not, I took a risk, it didn't work out...that's life.

I know it's probably pointless... but would CanAm be able to give us at the very least monthly updates on what's going on with the Type97? ... even if it's " sent letters to *blank* and no response"

We all know that CanAm is doing everything possible to get them released but it would be good to hear what's happening?

Well boys, I caved..., sort of... I switched my order with Canada Ammo from the T97 to the Tavor... What pushed me towards the T97 in the beginning was the price... With a couple extra bucks in my pocket, I decided to go with the Tavor...

Cheers
