Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

My guess is in 4 months the backlog will be cleared. Since handguns will be non-existent and transfers between people won't be allowed. Only thing left will be restricted rifle transfers and that won't be much.
Seems to be averaging 125-130 days from transfer input to approvals. We are coming out if the 3000+ (per day) plus transfer days so should feel like it speeds up as they finish more "days" quicker, but I think when we get to the period in august when the import ban was announced there will be another big curve to get over. We also have christmas break etc in there. 4 months seems to be the number if all goes as it is but probably closer to 6-8

Happy to report my buddy's transfer for his first handgun went through today. I dont have the reference # but it was a June 8th purchase from wolverine (I know because i was on the phone with him at like 2am guiding him through the purchase lol). Looks like Wolverine initiated the transfer the same day.

There was a brief period at the very end of July/beginning of August that daily transfers did not exceed approval capacity, however that got shot to sh!t when the import ban was announced. I believe we've only recently (last week or two) come to a point where the number of daily transfers are below the number of daily approvals... the average wait time will continue to increase until well into 2023.

I was informed yesterday by Easthill Outdoors that the transfer time from Ontario is approx 5 months. Purchased new pistol Sept 26 and can expect to wait until Feb 2023.

Technically, they may be right...if you live in Ontario. Transfers are approved by the CFO of the purchaser's residence. In your case, the Ontario CFO has nothing to do with it - your transfer will be administered by the AB-CFO. I purchased a Glock 17 from a dealer in BC and that transfer was approved by the ON-CFO; BC-CFO was not involved.

June 7 - Oct 14 (purchased June 2)
Transfer Reference No. 59193XX

Considering my last June 7 transfer was 59203XX and approved on Oct 4 it seems that transfers are being completed out of order. Or possibly each day is being done in reverse order???

They definitely aren't being done in exact order. It seems like they are being done in stacks. I am guessing there are some high performers that work through their June 7 stacks faster and now they are going back through to clean up whatever is missing from that date.

After seeing this weeks progress I dont have high hopes for one of those big OT saturday pushes, it would be nice to be wrong.

I see your location is Calgary, so if you live in Alberta, your transfer will be completed by Alberta CFO. Not sure how long that will be but it will not be 5 months. It will be in a couple weeks more likely. FInd an Alberta transfer thread (if they exist) and see what they are experiencing.
