Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Snails pace 59340XX and 59872XX from June 2022 p2p sale all in Ontario nothing but crickets. Hope to hear something soon, also have 60529xx in the void.

Was just about to write to the CFO to enquire about why it was not approved.
 
Getting close to my last one; Aug 16 B2P (BC-ON), 60004xx. According to the spreadsheet, it should be about 10 more days (which gets it a lot closer to me than it was 5 1/2 months ago...).

Filled out a complaint form the morning. I have 2 more transfers still in the mix. Latest rate of approval on mine is 158 days. A purchase last Feb was 21 days and i thought that was a bit much.

Not expecting much from the ombudsman's office and i kind of think they have bigger fish to fry, but thought I should get in a bit of a squeaky wheel.

On the up side one of my handguns arrived in the mail today from Prophet River. Approval sent to them Jan 19, shipping label created same day, picked up by CP on the 20th travelled 1400+ km and arrived here today at 10am. Pretty fine service I would say. Maybe some of our best dealers should be taking over the CFO roles?

I was in the exact situation.
I also filled out a complaint this morning with Ombudsman about waiting 6 months for a purchase.
I too recieved a pistol in the mail today, but mine was a p2p transaction (initiated July 20th).
Hopefully we can get the Ombudsman to get the CFO to......work more efficiently

I filed a complaint with them on Dec 7th about the length of my 4 transfers, finally got a "thanks for your complaint, fill this out" email on Jan 18th.

Not quite transfer length, but Holy crap, 6 weeks for a response for more info.

So weird- I sent an email and called. Within 24 hours I had an email response and phone call. Very helpful. They took all my transfer info… said in 10 business days they will have a response or some conclusion. If not satisfactory I will push them.
 
When I filed my complaint with the ombudsman, I looked around their website and found this filed report re: delays at CFO in 2020-2021. Emphasis on the last sentence is mine.

We received numerous complaints in 2020-2021 about delays in approvals by Ontario’s Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) for transfers of restricted firearms. We learned that this backlog was largely due to COVID-19, as the office was struggling with staff shortages and technological limitations related to working from home, while dealing with an increase in applications. Our staff confirmed that the CFO had put out messages to advise the public of possible delays. We also worked with CFO staff, through a spreadsheet system, to ensure that each application related to a complaint we received was processed.
