Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

The private to private transfers have picked up. I tweaked my spreadsheet tracking them. I was averaging the number of days the P to P transfers were lagging behind the B to P transfers each week. Now I added the median days delay each week. Rouge approvals were really throwing off the average so the median is a much better representation.

At the beginning of October there was little or no delay for P to P approvals. Then the delay continued to increase until it peaked in the first week of January at 37 days. So far this week the median delay is down to 31 days and today the delay is under 20 days.

If only they would batch process the transfers we would get our approvals sooner and we wouldn't have to track this. There is just no valid reason not to batch process once Oct 21 hit.

The lady I dealt with at ombudsmen seemed quite familiar, so I’m sure a bunch of people have contacted them. My 601 has gone from end of December to end of February now. Time to start putting pressure on the CFO, other provinces have been doing batch transfers, expediting call ins that waited longer than two months, etc. I get they are busy, but if they’re choosing to be inefficient I have no sympathy anymore.

Has anyone heard or received anything from Arms East recently? I'm moving this week and have 3 orders with them awaiting approval that I need to change the mailing address on, one of which is due to be approved anytime now. I've emailed twice, called 4 times, left voice mail and nothing.

Would you mind posting your p2p spreadsheet? I bought one in September and sold one in October, and I would like to track the progress

Here is a link to my spreadsheet which I created in Excel and have copied to google docs. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cbpExIBPhPJumrJWxsOS_RufHJIelFrrknPUsVzY88g/edit?usp=sharing

In this spreadsheet I list all approved private to private transfers which have been reported on this thread since October 1. Prior to October 1 approved P to P transfers were not reported with any consistency. With each approved transfer number I list the initiation date, the reference number, the CFO approval date of the transfer, the End date of when the transfer would have been approved from the B to P spreadsheet. I calculate the number of days the approval is after the End date or in other words the Delay. I also calculate the total number of days it took to approve. I then slot the delay in the appropriate week column so that totals, average and Median number of days delayed can be calculated. For most people all they should be concerned with is the Median number of days delayed for the current week or last week.

Someone wanting to get an estimate on when to expect their P to P transfer approval still needs to look up their reference number on the B to P spreadsheet and get the End date for that reference number. They then add the Median number of days delayed to the End date for an estimated approval date.

I tried calling arms east, no luck, but through email they responded in under 24 hrs. Got my authorization yesterday, 59926xx, business to person, purchased aug 8, transfer started aug 10. Edit: looks like Arms East have shipped it.

Just a thought..... Have you updated the address that is on record with the CFC? Businesses aren't supposed to ship firearms to an address that isn't listed in their files.
